Sorry for the late report, but I, well… on with the report. A work friend, Hookjaw , and myself got off work early and headed up to East Canyon with hopes of a little open water bank tangling. First impression was a little sketchy. Ice to the edges by the dam as you first pop up out of the canyon. Kept driving and eventually found a small amount of water. Gave it go to no avail. Decided to check out the inlet. Shoulda’ gone there first. Started a ways down from the ice cause a few guys were already there. Hooked into some suckers and a couple little bows. My work buddy isn’t shy, and snuggled right up next to the guy on the point. Made friends in a hurry and started yarden’ in the bows. Hookjaw and I decided to join in on the fun. It was a little crowded on the point, but we managed to get four guys reeling them in consistently til dark. The closer to the ice the faster it was. Caught about 30 fish that day. All bows ranging from 10" up to about 16". Well, and the suckers (3). DAY TWO: Turns out I lost my car keys while up there the day before. Just had to miss work so I could go look for my keys. Took the wife and baby for an afternoon ride, with the rods…“just in case”. Searched everywhere for the keys. No luck, well can’t end the day like that. Better wet a hook. It was a bit windy for my wife and the kids’ liking, but I snagged a football and a nub in the 15 mins. that I had. Caught those at the inlet. Caught two more at the other little bay on the way out because I saw some fish rising and just had to give it a try. Wife agreed for just a little bit. Long short of it…on the way home my pops calls and says he’s headed to East Canyon. I figured he needed a guide, so I sent my wife home with the truck and my pops snagged me at the Browning outlet in Morgan. We went back to the inlet (it’s now 5:00pm) fished for an hour and caught another 20 fish between the two of us. Gotta love ice off.
ps. should mention all the trout were caught on green, rainbow, or chartruese (sp?) p-bait. Suckers on worms. On day two a couple of guys were just leaving when I went back with pops. They were doing well with worms for the trout. Location, location, location.[;)]
