late burbot gorge report

[:)]sorry for the late report but I just figured out how to post a picture. This is a 26" ling I caught fishing saturday before last 1-12. My brother and I caught 17 ling and this was the biggest. The other pile of ling were from last night at the gorge. We caught 25 they were 8" to 22" inches. Sure was some fast fun action. They sure are eating all the crawdads and smallmouth bass up, so you had better get down there soon and clean some out.[:)] It’s fast and fun action.

Thanks for posting the picks and telling us about your experience. It is people like you that get us excited to get out and fish new areas. Thanks. It looks like you had a good time. keep up the good work.

I have never fished FG, but I plan on taking a trip this winter. Where were you guys fishing?

[:)]Hey BigIceHole that’s a great name did you get that name from your wife. Mine gave me one that’s close to that because I’m always fishing instead of shoveling the driveway and mowing the grass I thought trfishin was more user friendly. We were fishing at lost dog and buckboard. I would’nt be afraid to fish anywhere on the ice around points or rocks. They seem to be everywhere up there. I have caught them in other area’s in the past even in the summer off of the bank at night, not as many as through the ice. good luck

Well TRF looks like you guys made out all right on saturday, We went back on sunday and caught a lot more pup lakers but no burbot. nice talkin with ya!

[:)]hey lake drifter it was nice meeting you and hope to see you on the water sometime. Fishin started getting better the darker it got. good luck fishin

LOL…(I’m the wife) and I did give him the idea for the name. But when we go ice fishing, we use the same auger. So I guess he could call me a BigIceHole too! But he wouldn’t dare. [;)]

:sunglasses:Glad to see that you guys were able to get through the name change thing. I like it.

:laughing:I’m glad to see that you guys and gals have a sence of humor. I’m still trying to get my wife to go ice fishing.

Don’t forget about the fresh water lobster catching. Its really heating up [;)]. Thanks for the fun.

hey captain That sure was a huge freshwater lobster that you caught.[sly] I was trying to get it done but ran out of time. Better get ready for the next ling and freshwater lobster trip. I can’t wait [:)] I’m glad that you only caught one as that lobster was big enough for both of us.

How thick was the ice?? can you use a 4 wheeler?? and hows the snow on or around the banks???And what baits worked best???

Just trying to plan a trip and need to know what to bring or not to bring…

[:)]hey bassrods the ice was about 12" thick with little or no snow on the ice or around the banks. try small glow jigs with crawdad scent or suckermeat. watch out for the pressure ridges they are sometime open water or thin ice, be carefull crossing the ridges. Bassrods have you been down to pelican lake. If so how’s the edges and ice holding up. good luck fishin

That is a big Ling! how big do them ugly things get? are they any good eatin?

wy state record is 44’‘and 19.1lbs seen them up to 32’'6lbs in the gorge wont be long and thay will be in the teens nice to see all you guys up hear killin’em .[:)]FISH

[:)]that’s the biggest I have gotten out of the gorge this year. I have heard of some 30+ inchers but have’nt seen any pictures yet. From what I know they can get a lot bigger and they taste great.

Thanks for the INFO, let us know how they taste??
I hear they are a great tasting fish…

[:)]I says they taste like chicken ha ha No really they say they taste like lobster but I’m not a fan of lobster but my friend was waiting when I got home to clean all of them at 11:00pm and had a fish fry the next day. He loves them and wants to go kill some with me the next time I go.

trfishin…it looks like you had way too much fun. I can’t believe you used hemastats. All kidding aside I will be coming down from Laramie with dad Feb 8-10. I shot you a PM. Come out and join us. Can’t wait to get on the hardtop at the bigpond!

[:)]hey SSMinnow that was’nt your average crawdad that was a huge Lobster craw big enough to take at least one finger off on his way back down the hole. I need all my fingers for cutting holes, baiting hooks and catchin ling so that’s why I got the plyers out Also I was using my dead chicken eye to see that lobster craw so the plyers were the safest bet for handling that big boy. I’ll talk to you later.
