Jordanelle 4/24

Despite the threat of weather I took a trip Sunday morning to Jordanelle. The water is much lower than I remember seeing it (it’s been a while). But there’s still plenty to launch a boat (at least from the Hailstone area).

It was pretty cold, still mostly sub-50 degree water, except in a few shallow back bays where I saw as high as 53. I didn’t try for bass; I figure it’s still too cold for them.

After cruising around a few areas I found some fish, and dropped down a perch/gold spoon, and immediately had a fish on, but it popped off just feet from the surface. I tried various techniques with various spoons, rapalas, and tubes, no luck.

While cruising back I found a seemingly random spot in over 100 FOW that produced 4 smallish trout on a greenish/gold kastmaster (small, don’t know the exact size). After a few laps through the area it dried up - only a couple more hits but nothing that stuck.

I fished from 7:30 to 11:30, and it was pretty slow overall.

Thanks for posting your report, were to trolling for those trout you caught or jigging? If you were trolling, how fast were you going?

The one I initially hooked and lost was while jigging. I might have had better luck jigging if I had brought some kind of bait with me to tip the lures.

The ones I pulled in were trolling. I tried as slow as about 1.4 mph, and as fast as 2.4, most of this fish hit at 1.8 to 2.0.
