Is nothing sacred?

Went to gather the minnow traps at the chub hole after an overnight soak. Found that someone had helped themselves, not only taking the chubs but one of the traps as well. The other trap was full, so not a total loss. I never thought that people could stoop so low.

No morals these days !

:sunglasses:Sorry, but you should know better. That little pond is popular with more than bait-seeking anglers. Lots of shooters out there practicing with their “urban renewal” weaponry. Also more than a few folks that drive out there to use drugs or to engage in other “activities”.

It does not pay to trust your fellow man…or woman…these days. Do not leave anything out for temptation and you won’t suffer so much. As the old saying goes…LOCKS ARE MADE TO KEEP INNOCENT PEOPLE INNOCENT.

Sorry for the loss of your trap…and your trust. That always smarts.

i feel your pain dude.. over the years i have lost 5 traps to tho’s who thought they needed my traps more than i did.. suck’s but part of the game.. my traps wear more than lickley kidd’s not knowing any better.. still trapping my own minnow is worth the risk..

Hey, I was wondering where I could go to trap minnows. I live in Provo and could use some fresh bait. I was also wondering what you guys use for bait for the minnows. Thanks

Usually put bread and dog food in the traps. I am looking for a new chub hole myself, one not on the beaten path.

:sunglasses:Strawberry, Electric Lake and Scofield are the three most popular spots for minnowing that are well known. There are various small creeks and ponds that are good producers but most guys protect their spots and do not publish the info on public forums. Some spots are just not big enough or productive enough to withstand a lot of harvesting.

If you can get over to Settlement Canyon lake, above Tooele, it is full of chubs…and crawdads too.

There are lots of potential spots in Sanpete County, for chubs, suckers and fathead minnows. If you PM Fuzzyfisher he can probably point you toward some spots.

It is a bit early for most minnow holes. But, once the ice is off at Scofield and E-Lake there will be reports of BFTers catching minnows as well as fish. A good way to go is to get several guys and several minnow traps together and just do a “load up” run. When the minnows are crowding the shoreline, during their spawning runs, you can gather a cooler full. Then, you properly prepare them and freeze them for a season of fishing without having to “donate” any more to the Sportsmans’ profit picture.

About the only place to find minnows right now is at a few closely guarded warm spring potholes out in the west desert. Some of the formerly best ones have been trashed by too many people knowing about them and overharvesting. Since they are also frequented by “blast shooters” (ventilate everything…moving or not) and druggies, you never know what you might encounter out in the remote areas.

I am attaching a writeup I put together on catching and using minnows. Hope it helps.
