Hit Newton on Monday and could’nt find a crappie for anything. The weather was warm and the fishing wasn’t except for muskie. After 3 hours of trying to find the elusive crappie we were skunked. We decided to troll for that predator fish that causes the death of many of my crappie lures. Within the first minute, I hooked a 30 incher. It was fun and fought hard. We trolled for another 5 minutes and got out the crappie jigs again. No Crappie. We were heading back to the truck and why not try for another…within 30 seconds, I hook another 30 incher. We probably trolled for a total of 20 minutes and had 2 muskies. The muskies were on the surface and seemed to be feeding heavily. So if you love to catch Tiger Muskie, Newton is where you need to go. If you like to catch skiers, it will be no problem. I caught them both on an immitation black and white rattle trap. I read posts of everyone catching them and it is the greatest thing ever and I just sit back and taste the flaky white meat of a slab crappie.
With all these posts on newton that lake has gone crazy im more suprised you was able to troll with out some jack ass cruising 10 feet from you [crazy]
I was up at Newton on Sunday and I gotta say, as bad as I dislike wakeboard boats ( whose sole purpose is to create as large a wake as possible) I never had one within 150’ of us. Fishing boats on the other hand are a different story. I figure those idiots think that because they are fishing also, it is ok to go blazing by 30 feet away (not wakeless needless to say).
