How to fish the jordan river?

Some days I cant make it up to the provo and i need to get my fix… I have heard story’s of some pretty decent fish coming out of the Jordan river (even some trout which i had no idea)

So what are some of the best methods for the different fish in the river? best type of water?

Thanks!

Get some 10 or 12 lb line. Sinking worms onto the bottom using a heavy sinker works well. I also use 1/8, 1/4, or 1/2 oz jigs rigged with 3-6" inch plastic minnows. Sucker meat or white bass meat works well too. The problem is the lack of clarity in the water, so be prepared to snag and lose some lures. Catfish like the slack water on the edges of runs or bends. White bass are suspended in eddies. Can’t help you with largemouth bass or walleye, cause I haven’t figured that out yet.

Get yourself some 2 - 3" chub minnows & 2/0 circle hooks. Hook the minnow through the eyes & then back through the body behind the gills. Make sure the point is exposed. I like to add a split shot or two about a foot above the hook. Find a slower water spot at a curve in the river or below a bridge, basically the same kind of holes you’d fish for trout. Let the minnow bounce along the bottom with the current & when it stops, take up a little slack. If it pulls back, cross his eves & hang on. Some of those channel cats put up a helluva fight.

Good luck.

there are some bruiser browns in there too, recently everytime i go i have been seeing good 20 inch browns eating dries off top but i ive only got1 to hit and i missed it, but ya any slackwater out of the main current should hold fish.

Never fish it after a big rain. All the storm drain runoff pollutes the heck out of that river. It’s still not right since Friday.

Thanks for all the great tips! Any reccomendations on where to go?

there are a few good areas from about 7200 south all the way to point of the mountain, but ive found that around lehi all the way to the pumphouse are the best for kittys but ive caught every species in that river around Point of the mountain. just any kind of slack water out of the current should do ya well.
