Great time at Powell

Made a quick trip to Powell…
We headed out thursday, we was planing to leave friday but just could not waite…

We left at 5:00 and headed out, it seemed like a long trip but only took 4 1/2 hours to get there…We was on the water friday by 6:40 water was flat and the dawn skies was looking clear and deep blue…

We wanted to head south and see how the bass was getting along sense our last trip…We came in for a landing at one of the small coves and found the bass, lots of bass, nice fat bass, that was jumping on our lures and when reeled in there must have been ten or more others following the hooked bass to the boat…

We fished this cove for about a half hour and hooked one after another it seemed like every cast we had a bass on the line, the size was the thing that was funny…

All the bass was fat and just so many we could not stop laughing at how many there was, in the time we fished that cove we must have boated over 50 bass all large mouth bass, but all of them was only 9" to 11" long…

We moved from there to other canyons and coves not sure just how many fish we boated…We worked our way back up lake hitting coves and canyons along the way and found fish all over in every place (coves and canyons) we caught lots of fish some bigger one but all the fish we got was fatter then years pasted…

Powell has more cover with brush then in years pasted and if or when the water comes up this year it will have even more…
We found shad in a few spots witch in years past we didn’t see this time of year, lots of blue gills and crappie swimming in the brush and rocks..

The water temps. in the morning was 51 main lake and by 5:00 in the very backs was up to 60* to 64* warmest but would drop back down with the little wind or breeze we got at times…

Saturday we headed north and found the fishing great as well with some bigger bass as well..Water temps was about the same, We were prefishing for a bass tournament for this coming weekend witch should be good fishing for all…

We did get some big bass and we weighted our bass to get an idea of the best spots for next weekend my best 5 bass went 14.3 lb for one day and the other day was 12.10 lb witch is some great weights we seen some great country and great water and had some great fishing, I know I will be back to Powell many time this year for what looks like could be the best fishing that Powell has had in years…

Oh yes the stripers are very fat as well and all over the lake, not the skinny one like years past but big fat and full of fight, crappies well you go catch a few and you tell us what you think…

I will be having sweet dreams till I get back to Powell again…Oh waite was this just a dream???Powell great fishing, great water???Bigger fish and fat stripers as well???

Head to Powell and make your own dreams come true as well, great fishing and tight lines…

Sound like there should be some great fishing down there this year.

Nice Report BR. You have my blood pumping for our Annual Lake Powell trip (May 2-7) that is for sure. I am assuming you went out of Bullfrog right? If so how far uplake did you go? I have noticed quite a difference in the size of the LMB this year just by the reports on wayneswords. No matter how much crap I give the LMB anglers, they sure are fun to catch and I will take a day out of my trip to target them since they seem to be growing. Heck, just imaging old TROUT_slayer catching the state record LMB, how would that be???[;)] I would probably get her weighed, certified, than throw her on the bank!!! HAHAHA just kiddin!!! Again, great report…did you get any pix to go with the report!!! Heck, just scenery pics from down there are great!!!

We went up to good hope bay area north end…

No we had no wind to speak of, but it was just starting as we left at 1:00 saturday…
