Had a fishing outing set with PACKFAN and his wife at where else yep ‘da-Newt’.
Arrived a little after 9AM air temp was 16* departure air temp 34*.
Parked at the bottom of the boat ramp as there is no snow for the sleds. Edges were fine in the AM but upon departure, they were soft but nothing bad. Main body of ice is solid 8” pushing 9”. Ice was singing with lazar sounds most of the day quieted down later in the afternoon. Saw a 6 wheeled ATV come on the ice late morning and headed down the reservoir.
What a beautiful day. Had Newton to ourselves only a couple other parties farther down the reservoir.
Later in the day nice couple with their pups came up to us. Low-n-behold it was another forum member, longbow and his lady friend along with their Pups…Great to meet you longbow. Chatted with them for a little bit and we gave them a few pointers including longbow wanted to know how the flasher worked. So we showed them how it works and how simple they are to use. Longbow hope you folks put some on the deck.
We hung out in the same general area as last the outing. Found the magic depth this time to be right at 42’.
The fishing started a little slow…then from noon to roughly 1:30 we were wondering where did the Perch go. Nowhere cuz about 2PM until we left it was a Perch feeding frenzy like every 15-20 minutes came in waves. Several times as soon as the lure was almost to the bottom saw them coming up to great the offering. On two waves, I caught four Perch in less than 5 minutes all keepers.
Most Perch were pushing 9.5” with a dozen at 10”. Had few just at 9”…only a couple of dinks visited everything else were the keeper Perch. PACKFAN did manage some dink Crappie he said maybe 4-5” that he sent back down the hole. They also iced some nice size keeper Perch.
Lures used were Halis attached via a tiny chain to white glow Nuclear Ant and white glow stingers. Lures tipped with either waxie or snippet of crawler
