Made the trip from Evanston to Pelican today for some good gills. Had a slow morning but by afternoon found the fish. Iced some nice large mouth as well. The ice os realy soft around the cat tails and open water around the edges. Be safe if you go there. My friend Jeff iced a sweeet 18 in LM. Got a suprise when I was cleaning My catch, one of the LM had a dinkster in its mouth. What a fun day!
Hot dang. Nice bass! I got bailed on by a buddy with a sick wife last minute, or I’d have been there Monday, too. Was that your total take of bluegills? They sure are nice out there..
I’ve had several trips out there on ice and in early spring where it was slow at the crack of dawn, but opened up late morning or early afternoon..
That was a tiny bass in the fish’s gullet or a bluegill? Last time I went I found where someone had cleaned a bass and tossed a big handful of 1.25" baby blues out on the ice from his tummy… Then I snagged one of those little squirts right in the chin while jigging; he must have been trying to nibble the tiny spike I had on. I felt bad, but not bad enough to add him to the bag limit…
Between Jeff and I, we Rioja home about 12 bluegill a piece. Put some of the smaller ones back though. Wyoguy and i made some trips earlier in the season too and had alot of luck. I really like this lake. That was a smaller bass in the gullet of that other Fish.
