Got out on the pond this weekend- nice to finally have some spring weather before it turns to summer. Fishing was spotty, but good while we were on the spot.
Rainbows are active; hitting jigs like tubes, curly tail grubs, and marabous in earthtone colors. I did best with a Yamamoto Ika in a crayfish color. Most of the bites came on the fall, so keep a tight line. My buddy even picked up a couple of smallies, while casting crankbaits for bows. They were in only 10-15 ft of water.
We picked up about a half dozen lake trout pups jigging in 50-100 ft of water on main channel points and humps. Fish were suspended about 20 ft off the bottom. It was tough to stay on top of them for more than one drop/fish. My go-to lure was a Gulp minnow rigged on a 3/8 oz. jighead. Light jigging…
Tried for kokanee, but didn’t land any. Picked up a few more bows and a mack using RMT dodgers(hyperplaid) with squids(pink haze) running about 25 ft under a planer board at about 2.2 mph.
Water temps were 47-52F. Hope it helps, Ryno
