Flaming Gorge Report- 6/12/09

We made it out in the mornings last week before the afternoon “monsoons”, and found the fishing to be stellar. It’s been cool and rainy so the surface temps are still just in the upper 50s.

Kokanee fishing has been spotty, but good. We caught 9 kokes and a couple rainbows on Friday morning, trolling for about 3 hours. Fish were stacked mostly from 30-45ft, but we caught some as shallow as 15ft and some as deep as 60ft. Our hot producer was a pink/silver dodger followed by either a pink squid or Serpent spoon in Mai Tai. We caught fish up to about 18in, mostly upstream from Jarvies. Boat speed was about 1.8-2.2mph.

Trolling and jigging has also produced some good catches of rainbows and lake trout. While jigging (minnows & tubes in whites and greys) near Jarvies, we caught 3 bows and 5 macks from 60-80ft. Fish were hovering off the bottom in water up to 100ft, near rocky points and cliffs.

Smallmouths are still spawning, and we caught some nice fish up to about 2lbs casting jigs (single tailed, Hula grubs) and jerk baits (Xraps, Husky Jerks). Of course you have to weed through some of the smaller fish, but they’re fun too.

It’s unusual weather, but the fishing is still good! Hope it helps, Ryno

Thanks for the report Ryno! We are headed up there on tuesday for 6 days!!

Thanks for the report. I hope the fishing stays good we are headed up on Thurs for 4 days of Koke fishing.

Thanks for the great report. We are headed up there on
Wednesday to fish until Saturday. Your information is very helpful. This is why I love this site. I am like you in that I am fine to tell everyone how and where to catch these fun fish. I talked to Jared Johnson and he mentioned alot of the same lures and methods. I think he is going to be there this weekend also.

I have only fished the Wyoming side for Kokes. I would like top try Jarvies as I have heard other reports of good fishing there. We are hoping to get into rainbows and mac pups as well. I hope our lead lines will be useful in the early hours. 30-40 feet is almost too deep for lead line.

Thanks for the pics

Great report Ryno,
