There is going to be a tourney on hyrum feb 18. Up to 200 people and sign up starts today. It is very similar to devil creek regulations 200 buck and hour. For big fish grand prize 1500 second 1000 third 750 fourth is 500. The payout is assuming there is 200 contestants signed up. My brother just got the go ahead on the tourney today. If you are interested in fishing the tourney and you are an out of towner the campsites will be discounted to tourney participants. Nosauger is the one throwing the tourney so any questions just send him a pm, he also said he is going to work on getting some kind of website set up with all the regulations. should be a good turn out.

R657-58-5. Requirements for Type I Fishing Contests for Cold Water Fish Species
(1) A COR from the division is required for all Type I fishing contests for cold water fish species.
(2) Type I fishing contests for cold water fish may not:
(a) involve more than 200 participants
(b) offer more than $2,000 in total prizes
(c ) utilize live weigh-ins
(3) Type I fishing contests for cold water fish species are prohibited on waters where the Wildlife Board has imposed more restrictive special harvest rules for targeted cold water fish species including tackle restrictions, size restrictions, and other exceptions to the general fishing regulations, except at Scofield Reservoir where Type 1 fishing contests are allowed for rainbow trout only.
(4) There is no limit to the number of participants or total prizes at Flaming Gorge and Echo Reservoirs.
(5) Type I fishing contests for cold water fish species may not be held
(a) on Free Fishing Day except at Echo Reservoir.
(6) Fish taken in Type I cold water fishing contests may not be culled.
He said his brother got the go ahead to do the tourney. I would assume the go ahead was from the state if they already agreed to discount camping.
I was wondering if you could get more information on what the cost is, and where do you sign up?
Pretty sure the sign up fee is $60. Is there a fee to the state to hold a tourney? It’s just the math doesn’t compute well with me. $12000(collected) - $3750 (prize payout) - $800 (fish per hour prize?)= That only leaves $7500 to pocket??? Sounds like a really good deal.
Hey basshunter you’re right it is a total of 12,000 but I also have to pay for 2 separate permits from the state, obtain a 2 millions dollar aggregate insurance policy, deposit fees, pay the people that are helping me, pay for fuel and machines on the ice to check fish, pay for flags and equipment for participants, and equipment to quickly and easily measure fish so participants can get a quick measurement and clean release. Plus prize money and time spent organizing the event. I assure you I will not become rich by hosting this tournament my friend. This is simply an opportunity for people to get into a tournament a little closer to home, and give those people that couldn’t get into the other tournaments that wanted to a chance to fish with the hopes of making a little extra cash. 70 to 80 % payback and a list of expenses. If your doin it to get rich then don’t bother. Every other tourney can pull it off with those percentages, no reason you can’t.
