Fishing at Strawberry 7/17

Fished strawberry (solider creek side) yesterday. Fishing was good all day long but the evening from about 8pm till dark was hot!! Trolled needlefish most of the day and landed 13 cutts, 8 bows, and 1 small kokanee. All cutts were between 14-18in (all released) and caught in 35-60ft of water. Got a couple nice fat 18 in bows that will go on the bbq tonight. Overall it was a good day of fishing with good people.

P.S. I’m new to kokanee fishing. Seem to only land trout even when rigged for kokanee. I was told that i should fish 2-5ft deeper and troll slower. Any advice on lures or technique would be greatly appreciated.

Good on ya Weekender. We were there Saturday with some clients and the fishing was slow…full moon thing.

Weekender-
I am certainly no expert but I got my first ever Kokes from Strawberry 2 weeks ago. I got hooked up with some KCT dodgers in silver/silver and spinners from the same company in pink/white. I was told to tie on the spinner no further than 10" behind the dodger and to only troll between .75 and 1 mph. I tipped the back hook of the spinner with a very small piece of worm (<1/4" long). I trolled SC side at 25’.
I am trying to catch one of each fish in Utah and this checked off my Koke requirement!

It’s quite common to catch other species of fish while trolling for kokanee. Don’t feel bad, you are doing everything right, other fish just love the kokanee lures too. We usually average about 7 to 10 cutts in between each kokanee we catch at strawberry, just how it is.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Cooked up the koke, way more tasty than those bows. I’ll implement some of these strategies and hopefully have more success with the salmon.
