I’m going to be down in St. George the first half of next week and will be spending a good chunk of time at Sand Hollow Reservoir. I’ve never fished there before. Does anyone have any advice on where to fish, when, and with what?
Also, I figure Quail Creek will probably be more crowded than Sand Hollow for the holiday so I wasn’t planning on going there, but it is an option. Are there other good spots close by that might be worth checking out? How are the bass at those spots? I imagine they’re in post-spawn by now but does anyone know for sure?
Lastly, we’re gonna have some small kids with small attention spans there that might want to try fishing for the first time while we’re there. Are there any decent community ponds in/around St. George? If so, where can I find out more info? Thanks,
Wasatch and I were down there in April and fished both. Due to bad weather we did not get much time to explorer Sand hollow as it was always WINDY. We did ok along the Dyke at the south end mostly fishing 5 in worms in a dark green with a small bullet weight above them. Quail is usually less windy. We were at the local Sportsman’s and they said that SH gets more bass pressure than QC does these days so do rule it out. Also in SH there are only Bluegill and LMB. Where over at QC you have a wide range of Trout, Crappie, LMB, a few cats and so on. At QC I did caught all mine on rubs in either Watermelon, White or Pumpkin with Chartruse tail. The other real nice thing is that the two lakes are only about 15 minutes apart. Good luck.
I lived in St. George for about 5 years. I allways bombed out at sand hollow but it was only 2years old when I left. A great spot at Quail is the north end by the river inlet, but with small children, I would recommend the bottem end of the dayuse(boat dock) area, there is a little inlet,privacy,shade the works. Even better is Skyline pond from St.George blvd exit Take your first right at wendys then a left at the end of the raod (Skyline rd) It’s about 1/2 mile to a right hand turn with a sign for the animal shelter,the pond is at the end of that raod. this time of year the stock it so full you can’t keep your line in the water, great for the kids, the other pond is at the end of dixie drive across from the baseball field, Same senario, but usually more crowded, but there is also a park.[;)]
Thanks TL, when we take the little ones we’ll just be chucking from shore, but most of the time they won’t be with us (not our kids [;)]). That little pond is sounding like a great idea for them!
Hey there, we’ll definitely be in the tubes. I just hope the big W doesn’t come out and screw things up for us! We’ll have a boat and a couple waverunners with us so maybe we could have them tow us out and drop us off at a good spot then come get us later. Guess it kinda depends on how crowded it is. I know Monday will be ridiculous, but I imagine Tuesday and Wednesday will be better.
With SH you can pretty much drive arund most of it. We launched at the SW corner of the dyke. It has a great tube launch point. also if you drive all the way aroa und until you hit the sign that says you have to stop and than lauch it is suppose to be good over there. At Quail we launched off the Western most ramp and tHan fished all that bacnk area aroun the inlet as well as up to some of the points across the lake.
