Well, one of my daughters has decided to move back to Houston
I wanted to make sure that I got a little time on the water with one of my grandsons, Joel, before he heads out. Since he and I have never had alone time on the lake, I wanted to be sure I put him on some fish and figured crappie would be my best bet. We put in at HB around 7:15 or so and ate breakfast on the boat as we idled out. I headed straight to a spot that Seth showed me a few weeks ago. After a few minutes I was able to find the brushpile so I started getting stuff ready. Since he had "forgotten" his Cars fishing pole, he was trying to figure out what he would use to fish. I told him that since he's very fast I would just hold him by the feet and dunk him in the water to catch the fish. emoSmile I think he got a little worried when we shut the motor off. lol. Needless to say, I opened the rod locker and pulled out his new Zebco 202 combo. Things got better for him after that.

As is the case with most of my trips, it turns out that I grabbed the wrong plastics box out of the garage. Instead of grabbing my crappie box I grabbed one with worms, lizards, a couple of grubs, and an OLD pack of small Storm swimbaits (hooks included). After kicking myself a few times I figured it wouldn't hurt to tie on one of those swimbaits. Glad I did. After hooking a couple for him and letting him reel them in, he was ready to take over. His first couple of casts were short but from then on he was casting a good distance. He also got a hang of how to feel the bites and reel them in. He did lose two nice ones at the boat. He had a great time whopping this old man and I loved watching him do it. He managed to get 7 in the boat while I got 2. We fished a couple more spots but they didn't produce. Since my addiction runs deep, I had to make a quick stop at a bass spot and pulled in two pretty quickly. We rode around and hit a couple more spots but didn't hook up.

Since I wanted to get trailered before the pleasure boaters started stacking up, we rode around a little then headed back in. We were off the water by about 11:45. Not a high quantity trip, but definitely a high quality day. I'm very glad we were able to get out and that he was able to boat a few. He even got a new rod out of the deal and loved it. He did make sure to confirm that the rod was his. lol. I sure am going to miss them.

Big THANKS to Seth for showing me the spot and to GAFisherman (Dusty) for offering to bring me some crappie baits. You guys are great!
