?Fish Lake?

Hey guys!
Just wondering if anyone could help me out with some info on Fish Lake…
Weve never been there before but we wanted to plan a trip up there for some
Camping & fishing. (In the next week or 2) anyway so here are my questions…

How is the weather in the middle of June?
Is there any sandy/shallow spots on shore for the kids?
Anybody been there recently, how was it?
Which camgrounds are closest to the lake?
Any tips/advice for fishing? (Shore or boat)

Sorry for all questions, just want to make sure its a good place to go,
Especially with the kiddos. Want to have a good time and hopefully catch
some fish = )

ANY info or advice be would awesome, THANKS guys!
Happy Fishing [fishon]

  1. Weather in mid June: Just like any other mountain area at near 9,000 ft. elevation. Cool nights, nice days. Don’t be surprised if you get a rogue snow storm. Be prepared.

  2. sandy, shallow spots: I wouldn’t call any of it sandy. Gravely and rocky would be better description. Kids could certainly play in the gravel, and water. The water will be cold – too cold to be swimming, if you ask me. Any of the parking areas and pull offs will offer you similiar shoreline conditions.

  3. Lots of people have been there recently. I’m sure you’ll get plenty of reports if you look.

  4. Mackinaw campground is the closest to the lake.

  5. Tips/Advice: get a boat. Jig outside the weedline for splake using cutbait (perch, chub, sucker). If you are catching fish, move.

Fish lake = Trolling leaded line, pop gear and a worm! Works every time without fail. The water is freezing even in the summer. These are the fish the kiddos caught last Aug. The size of fish has really gone down, but is a beautiful area. It’s defiantly worth a trip and don’t for get capitol reef is only an hr away.

Trolling has always been my bread and butter for some pretty good rainbows. Go deep for some pups. Or anchor just inside the weeding and catch a mess of perch. It’s one of my favorite places to fish.
