Fish Lake

Made the journey down to Fish lake on Wednesday with my Bro. in law Chad.We were on the ice just as it got light. We drilled our holes and got the shack set up. The Splake were at anywhere from 17’ to 25’ We had no trouble catching 15" to 20" Splake for about three hours. We moved to deeper water and tried our luck with the Mac’s. We both hooked one each but both came off after a few reels. (crappy hook set or soft mouths) The Splake were all over suspended at the same depth all day with a few rainbows showing up once in a while. The little rainbows we iced had teeth marks from nearly being a Mac’s dinner. It did slow down in the afternoon, but never totally shut down. Great day all around and was well worth skipping out of work for. [;)]

Nice report Chuck, sounds like you have the splake and bows figured out. Those macks can be a tough fish to catch at times but I hope you won’t mind me giving you a suggestion? I’ve jigged for a few macks over the years and I have found that they have a very hard mouth that is hard to get a hook to stick in. Because of that, when I hook one I always do a double hook set, even a triple hook set if it is a big fish. I also use braided line because there is less line stretch. Thanks for posting your report.
