Well we’re back. I bombarded you all with questions a couple of weeks back. I was looking for a place within 5 hours drive of Las Vegas that I could take my boys on a camping, trout fishing, wilderness trip. And with a lot of help and suggestions from you all we decided on Fish Lake. This is now my new favorite place! It was everything I wanted and more. Despite the daily afternoon thunderstorms we had a great time. We managed about 24 rainbows, 6 splake, and countless numbers of perch over our three day stay. The largest was a 2 lb rainbow. Not huge but beautiful. We released all but 4 which we enjoyed by the lakeside. The only real downer was that my digital camera only produced a couple of good pics. But I will remember this trip pics or not, and so will my boys. We have always done a lot of fishing for tuna, striper, largemouth, etc. but this was a special trip. Just like the trip I always dreamed of as a kid. Anyways now that I sound like a girl I will say thanks to all of you for your help. And I will be looking for some more tips as I am going to return to Fishlake this year for some ice fishing. Another thing I have never done…
Yep, Fish Lake holds many fond memories to me. It is a beautiful lake. Where did you end up camping? You definitely need to make it back up there for ice fishing. The catching can be fast and furious and it is just as beautiful in the winter. However, be sure to do your best to time it when the wind is calm (often difficult to predict).
fish lake has allways held a specal place in my hart.. i have fish there for a long time i rember my grandpa taking me there and he would paddle board for mac’s. while i would catch rainbow after rainbow just trolling mono and a red&white.. [sly].. good times..
when your ready for your ice trip let us here on the utah board know.. more then likely your find someone to meet ya there and help ya out.. i fish there a lot on the hard water..
Hey TDOG, I was up there as well, got caught in Fridays thunderstorm while we were out scouting for elk on the four wheelers. I don’t think I’ve completely dried out from that one yet.
We targeted splake and caught plenty of them, although it was a challenge getting the jigs past all the little machine gun perchlet bites on the way down.
Glad you enjoyed your trip, cant beat the scenery up there.
Yep, FL hold a lot of memories for me also starting in the 70’s. The first ten trips there I dont believe I even took a fishing rod, rather, scuba tanks and spear gun. I also powdered a buck in the T/A one afternoon.
Then my son became old enough to travel the ice with me and live has never been the same. MACK FEVER! set in and its never let go..
I will definately let you all know when we are heading up again. I ended up camping on the south side of the lake, right on the shore in a small 3 man tent. We set up our stove and our gear and nobody gave us a lick of trouble. The thing is, even though they told me that camping is allowed in sites only, they also told me you can fish on the lake all night. So in reality as long as you are fishing they can’t make you pack up. I do believe they call that a catch 22. LOL. However we made absolutely sure that there was not a trace left that we were ever there. I am always hard on the boys about leaving a light footprint.
