Does anyone know if there should be fishable ice at Fish lake this weekend?
I would guess there won’t be fishable ice on Fish Lake until well into January. It takes longer to freeze than most of the other lakes because of it’s depth and the wind.
My family has ice fished at Fish Lake over New Year’s weekend for about 20 straight years…normally Fish Lake freezes after Christmas around the first of the year.
I’d bet my house on it that it isn’t frozen. I’ve seen 15 inches on Scofield one day, and driven to Fish Lake to find open water. W&B is correct. It will probably freeze just after Christmas, and be fishable around New Year’s Day.
I have fished there a couple times in February the last couple years and couldn’t keep splake off the hook. So this year I decided I would get up there as soon as it freezes. Thanks for the info.
Sometimes the shallow south end will freeze prior to the rest of the lake and be fishable around Christmas. I grew up down there and fished it every week during the winter and I don’t remember the whole lake ever being froze before Christmas.

One other thing to consider is that we’ve had a very mile winter so far. Temps haven’t been what they need to be to get Fish Lake frozen. Unless things change quickly, I’ll be surprised to see the lake completely frozen by New Years.
My parents have really enjoyed the fall down there but you are right. They haven’t had the cold weather or any snow at all. Hopefully it will all come in moderation and not all at once.
