Fish after Fish at Schofield

A couple of people from the office and I went out to Schofield this week. We did really well. We had too many of us to all be on the boat so most went on the lake and some stayed on shore. The boat crew caught a ton of fish when we found a spot on the north shore where the moss hadn’t grown tall off the bottom. They were killing the power bait and we had luck with dropping worms 4’ to 6’ off of the surface. They weren’t interested in our minnows at all.

Back on shore we caught some nice tigers and rainbows on minnows off of bobbers. It was nice to see some hot action at the lake again. We had a wicked fish and crawdad cookout after. DELICIOUS!

Sweeet fish and really nice pics!! Scofield has really picked up after a slow summer! good job…

Wow , those Tigers are beautiful fish and looks like they have some nice size to them as well. Thanks for sharing .

Was that you guys creating all that ruckus [;)] We were up there today seen a huge party of people on the dock and was wondering what was going on :sunglasses:

We fish all over the lake today caught mostly 12 to 14 inch bows its funny we lost 1 pole to a 21 an 3/4 inch tiger tied on on the sever bullet sinkers and dragged the bottom for about an hour Luck enough we were able to retrieve the rod with the Tiger LOL today was a good day [angelic][angelic][angelic][angelic]

The wind really picked up so deiced we had enough but gonna try it again next week Oh and DWR was out surveying people anybody know what that’s all about ?

That wasn’t my crew on the dock making the noise. We were the ones on the dock making the noise on Tuesday.

Glad you gt got your pole back. Oddly enough one of our guys was sleeping when his pole got pulled into the water. He wasn’t lucky enough to have found it again. I guess we don’t come to fish for a nap.

Welcome to the site Ur and thanks for posting your report. Sounds like fun was had by all, nice looking fish and crawdads. How big was that fish in the first picture?

Great report and cool pics. Looks like Schofield might really produce some monster tigers in a couple of years.

I fished Scofield last night and got skunked. I only fished flies which they apparently didn’t want. I fished out by the island, along the north shore in the weeds, and up by the dam. Not even a bite.

:sunglasses:Hey, nice job on those fish and 'dads. I haven’t been after those crawdads there in about three years, but when I did that time, it seemed like there weren’t as many in there as in years past. We were in the dam area. Did you guys get a ton of them? I’m just wondering if the crawdads have come back strong the past couple of years there.

I can’t wait to ice fish that place this year. With those tigers it should really be a lot of fun. I’m gonna have to make a trip sometime in early-mid December…

WOW Them are some good lookin trot I NEED to get up there.

Welcome to the forum, nice post and nice pics!
That tiger in the first pic is a hawg! That place is awesome, I need to get up there!

The full moon always seems to affect Scofield pretty bad - just my observation!

That first tiger is a friggin pig that would be up on my wall. I hope you all left a few bigguns for ice fishing season.

What was the measurements of the big tiger and what did you catch it on??

The crawdads have come back in force. We hardly paid attention for awhile and still killed them. We caught over 300 DADS. I learned a new technique that you all probably already knew. We used chicken on a string from the dock at Madsen Bay. We had always used traps or chicken on the shore from string. I didn’t think that the crawdads would hold on when I pulled the string up, but they sure did.

As far as that Tiger goes, I made a commitment to mount anything over 22 inches in that lake. He didn’t quite make that length, but he was a FATTY. Unfortunately I didn’t have my scale, but i know he was over 3 pounds, but I don’t think he made 4 pounds. His girth and color made me want to get him mounted, but I held to my standards.

On the fly comment, I never have had luck at Schofield on flies. I may not know how to fish them, but we have done well over the years with minnows, worms, jigs, Yoshuris, Pointers and Power Bait. We have done really well on the South Price River with Spinners.

About leaving some back, we had seven of us and only kept 14 fish, so a lot were turned back. We kept enough for a good meal and had a blast.

That WAS a fun day! [:)]

I forget how lucky I am sometimes. Urfishesdaddy is my boss, and he regularly calls us up to his office for a “meeting”… then he says something like, “tomorrow is a ‘fishing day’… who’s coming?!”. [:)] He invites us to “skip” work and go fishing fairly often. I’ve got it good. I’ve lost track of how many fishing trips we’ve made up to Scofield and the South Price River while we “should be working”. Thanks dude!

I’ll add a little to his report. First, catching the crawdads WAS fun like he said. It was crazy how they would hang onto the chicken drumsticks as you pulled them up. Usually, 2-3 would come up each time, but sometimes 5-6+ of them would hang on for the trip. I’ve got to get my kids up there for that, they’d have a blast.

Most of the fish we caught out on his boat came at the edges of the floating plants and moss in the water. There were pockets where you couldn’t see any vegetation, and thats where we anchored. Like he said, the minnows weren’t the hot ticket like they usually are, but they did like suspended worms and powerbait. I’m not sure how deep we were.

And yes, those tigers were beautiful. Wow. Even those nice pics don’t do them justice. I’ll bet that mountable 22’er will come sooner rather than later!

I AM glad we had seven us to clean all those crawdads. By the end of all the catching, we had almost a whole cooler full, and it probably took about an hour to clean them all. Very worth it. With a little butter drissled over them… Tasty.
