My wife and I started off a week of fishing in Idaho at Milner this afternoon. The smallies have not spawned yet and are really active. The water is abut 65’ and is the clearest I have ever seen it here. Usually the Snake River gets murky fast from the irrigation run off. After waiting out a storm that kicked up the wind we got out about 5pm. The lake gave us about 20 bass ranging from 8 inches to 14. The lady in the back of the boat out fished me again and lost a couple of real bruisers. Tomorrow it is off to Brownlee Res. but first we have to take another crack at the ones we lost today. It is good to be back on the Snake River. Will post some pics tomorrow hopefully with me holding a nice 20 incher. Got to hit the hay and get an earlier start tomorrow.
Good to hear you made it up there safely and caught a few fish on your first day. Good luck at Brownlee. I’ll see you and Christie next Saturday. Oh yea, I’ve got some money for you, I’ll give it to you then.
Ok no internet at the inn at Farwell Bend. So I have to catch up. Why this crazy weather. The boat has handled the weather ok but the fishing hasn’t. It has been slow. But we have caught lots of crappie. Not much size to them but they are every where here and eating anything bright and shiny. The bass were shy but I did manage to catch and release a nice 18 inch smallie. The high light of our visit to Brownlee. Lots of smaller fish to keep us busy but they kind of turn into clones. The cats…we only got 6 but they were good fish at 19 for the smallest and 27 for the largest. We have had rain and storms. Had to take the dog to town for a vet to get cheat grass seed out of his ear. Poor guy was suffering bad and didn’t like the digging it out much either but was in way better spirits after it was done. The river is loaded with trees and debries and we have stopped to swamp the boat to clean sticks out of the pump. Something I forgot about but have had some refresher training on now. We came out last night in the dark. Lots of very loud hits on the hull but didn’t see any damage from the floating stuff but got a rock bite I will blend out. Was parking the boat in a grassy spot and didn’t see the rock in there that must have had some sharp edges. Tomorrow it is off to Strike to see about some sturgeon.
Not the 20 incher you were hoping for by a nice fish none the less. Too bad about Joey, good to hear you got him to the vet. Hopefully the next few days will be some good ones. Good luck with the Sturgeon.
Whoa this is my third try on this. Bad internet connection. Poaching a free ride from the folks accross the street. Fishing C J Strike was like being with and old friend. We saw sturgeon roll on top but could only pull up a couple big cats. The post spawn crappie die off is giving them a feast that is hard to compete against. This is one of those places I wish i could live at a few weeks a year just to learn more about how the fish work here.
Too bad the catching wasn’t better, maybe the next place will be better. Those guys holding those cats sure don’t look like you or christie did you pick some shore bound fishermen?[:/]
Darrell is an old friend from way back. When we packed up and moved to utah he missed us so much he went out and bought his own jet boat.LOL. We got out togeather on a couple old fishing holes and shared some tales. I have a broken boat trailer to go have fixed this morning. That will cut into our time at Salmon Falls.,
Looks like an evening fish and maybe a while in the morning before we head for home. Im going to try to get to Norton Bay and drag some bottom bouncers. I need the walleye and the trout because we are only up to three species of fish Channel cat, SM bass and crappie. Well I better get. Hope the world is good down there..

You’ll never know the pain you are causing me – seeing pictures of CJ Strike and me not being there. I know exactly the holes you were fishing on CJ Strike (they are two of my favorites). Sorry you didn’t catch a few of those sturgeon. I hope they are hungry again when I get up there in early July.
I wish I had spent more time working the fish on Strike. They really show on the sonar. The welder didn’t get the bunk rail done til 1 pm Thursday so it shot our fishing time. When we got to Salmon Falls it was storming with 30 mph wind gusts. The wind and clouds were around this morning so an am shot at that lake was out. So we headed for home. Big storm up at Tremonton. Hope it all clears out for the Willard Bay fish in the morning. You know they are remodeling the camping at the Air Force marina down by the Dam. That might be more comfort and shade than Crane Falls Lake. The river flows are up also so I don’t know how that affects them. Anyhow I have to get things ready for the next fishing trip here. Good luck up there.
They really show on the sonar.
Yep, a six foot or often larger sturgeon definitely shows up on sonar.
