Do you have a favorite color for trout .
Flicker shad all the way, lots of big smallies. This one swallowed a #5 red tiger and got stuffed. 5.41 lbs
This one is the best in my opinion. I’ve always caught trout every time I’ve used it.
They could work for macs; the only concern I have is that they like a slow retrieve, and the Brad’s cut plug is pretty frenetic, and takes a bit faster troll to work correctly. But, its a thought. It sure seems to drive the kings crazy!! Mike
I have one of those , I will give it a try . Thanks
I think I would take a red devil spoon and a fry or stick worm on a Texas rig. If I could have 3, it would be a rapala or heddon suspended crank bait.

Cabelas had them (Flicker Shad) in a couple new colors this year, I just received my order in the mail yesterday, they look good. I got several in the perch as well as a couple in the fire tiger. I think they were called flash colors or something like that I’d have to look on their site. I can’t wait to try them on the eyes. By the way that’s a heck of a nice SMB you have on the wall. My cousin from MT. Home has one like that on his wall that he caught on the Bruneau end of C.J. a few years back, and he caught a 6 pounder at Anderson Ranch that helped him win a tournament up there a few years back. I have never caught a smallmouth over 4 lbs. but I have taken two largemouth out of C.J. that went over 7 Lbs. back in the early 70’s. I wieghed one at Black Sands and the other I had wieghed at the Waterfront Bar. [fishin]
I just looked the colors up and they were called slick perch and the other was called flashy firetiger.
This year I am going to experiment with casting bubbles , with bait and flys . Looks like a fun thing to learn .
That is a tough question, I’m a tackle junkie. That said, I absolutely love Megabass Vision 110s. They are easily the best jerkbait on the market, and I love fishing jerkbaits. They are killer in cold water fished slow with lots of pauses, but you can just keep speeding them up as the summer goes on and keep catching them. Largemouth, smallmouth, big trout and even my best walleye all fell to them.
Another favorite would have to be a smaller lipless crankbait like a Lucky Craft LV100. You can cover a ton of water with them, and everything will eat them. Most people don’t think of using a lipless crankbait for trout, but they will obliterate them.
What is your favorite color in the luck craft you recommend . I fish mainly for trout . Thanks Curt G.
I mostly catch them incidentally while bass fishing, but it seems overall they like ones with a bit of flash. Any of the baits in the aurora type colors should work. Another bait that I’ve caught some nice trout on is a Spro Aruku Shad jr. Magic Shad was especially good on the rainbows.
I just carry a bag with 8 trays and probably 400 or so lures. It’s not about what I want but what the fish want that counts!
My tackle box holds 100’s of lures and goes 60 mph. Lol
I have 4 large tackle boxes full of lures , two boats , a 17.5 foot jet . 18 foot inboard, outboard . I am always willing to try new stuff . It seems like no matter how much tackle you have , they are biting on something you have never seen before .
Don’t allow lures in my jetboat, bait only.
75 % lures 25% bait in my jet boat .
Mine probably has hundreds of lures crammed into it, but I think its top speed is under 5mph (float tube). Oh well, at least I get exercise being the motor ![]()
I love your posts and pictures.
Well thank you
I really need to get back to posting on my blog again, but for some reason I just haven’t felt into it lately. Hopefully I’ll have some posts to make soon. I haven’t had very good luck with my days off lately. Yesterday was pushing 70, sunny and beautiful, but I was stuck at work, and today I was off, but highs right around 40 with drizzle and ploppy snow flakes
Same deal last week, nice weather and then 50mph+ winds and sideways snow and ice pellets on my day off. Oh well, soon enough it should stabilize.
i love lip less cranks i have never tried lucky crafts line but Excalibur xr and xrk line are very good for the money and i have caught alot of big smallies on the them even in cold water but i would have to say my favorite lure for bass would have to be a senko because the are so easy to use i can take a 5 year old to the river in the summer texas rig a senko and catch fish all day very little snags and in a river u can just drift them for trout i like to use the smallest size spin in glow with a gang hook set up tipped with a worm or power bait
