Are you looking for a bow mount or transom? I’ve had both Minn Kota and Motorguide on the front and back of different boats over the last few years. I like my old Motorguide better but only because the MK is heavier. It’s really a personal preference, both are great motors.
I have a Minn Kota 45 and a Maxxum 40. Either work great on my 14’ Gregor
I have a 55 Minn kota on my 16 foot canoe. It just died. I am buying a new camo version of the same motor. It has been ULTRA reliable. It does dual service as a mud motor duck hunting.
I have been running Minn-Kotas for over 20 years, Had a 50 LB. thrust on my Tracker for 10 years still kicking when I sold it. I have a 74lb thrust on my Crestliner that I had installed on the boat when I bought it and it is going into it’s 11th season and never been in the shop. Pretty hard to change my mind to run anything else. I actually bought a twin to the one I have a couple years ago when Cabelas was running a sale on them for a back up just in case, never have needed it. I would make some one a good deal if interested.[fishin]
bowmount! i currently have the electric that came new with my boat back in the early 1980’s which is a minnkota 28lb and ya anything bigger will be awesome
I have a 45 lb. thrust collecting dust in the garage The Gator mount is broken you could probably buy a new mount for it cheap. With a little sweat equity and a new mount you would be good to go.
Both brands are good I have run multiple models of both.
I’ve got a 55lb thrust PowerDrive Minn Kota that works great. 12 volt. Fairly cheap, as I don’t need it any more.
thanks for all the responses
Iam looking for a electric motor p.m. me iam interested in buy a good used one and I am very handy in repairing things thanks.
I am waiting for my new minn kota I pilot to arrive so i can mount to my new 22’ sun tracker i cant wait to try it out
I had several people interested in the Minn-Kota thru PM’s and I had the thrust listed wrong it actually has 80Lbs. of thrust and I bought it new in late summer of 2009. Pictures and more info posted on the Utah for sale site. It will make some one a good motor.[fishin]
Look into the minnkota Powedrive v2 55lb thrust. It is the most thrust you can get out of a 12v motor so you only need one battery. The nice part is that if you decide to upgrade to I-pilot you can just swap in the part instead of getting a whole new motor. I have had mine for 4 years now, installed the I-pilot last year and love it.
Get the biggest LB thrust you can get, you can turn them down but they only go so high.
.And the higher the thrust you have when turned down they use less juice to run on the same power then the lesser LB thrust motors..
So your battery will last longer, and if your big motor stops running you can still get back..
Thanks for all the great responses! I am torn at the moment between the powerdrive and a motorguide pro series. However I am nervous bout the power drive due to friends having issues with the motherboards going out and other issues.
I upgraded my bow mount two years ago to the Minn Kota Powerdrive V2 55lb with factory installed I-pilot. WOW, awesome stuff is all I can say. Hard core fishermen like you will truly appreciate what this little motor has to offer. Go with the I-pilot and you’ll never have to say “should a, would a, could a”.
hey wipermac, what kind of boat do you have and does the 55lb push it good?
18’ Mariah fiber grass runabout. It’s not going to replace the 9.9 kicker for long days of trolling wipers at 3-5 mph. but yes it does its job and does its well.
I love the on the water speed for casting bank lines for TM’s. I’ll set the speed at .4 mph and just fish. perfect speed for two guys to pound the shore.
i have a new minkota v2 55 pound thrust 54 inch depth
with ock mount new never used we sold our boat last october and never got to try it out but have used my sons and thats why we bought one awesome trolling motor and it has great battery life if you get one, you wont be sorry
i am selling mine so if you are interested pm me
What is your boat?
