Electric Trolling Motor? which to get?

16ft aluminum bass tracker. Super light boat…currently have a 28lb 12v minn kota. boat was way under powered so anything will be a total upgrade ..

We have a 14’ Gregor. With the Maxxum 45, and my hubby’s GPS he said on 75% he was getting like 5mph I think. At Strawberry. It moves the boat pretty well.

oh wow! Ya I bet a 55 will be awesome

I had a PowerDrive 55lb/54"/12v. in great condition on a 182 Crestliner Tournament until last night that pulls it around great. I just bought a new PowerDrive V2 55/54/12 ( same exact specs ) hoping to add an I-Pilot but am having second thoughts on the Pilot.
My PowerDrive 55/54/12 is available for $300. Even if I don’t add the Pilot I have no regrets because the V2 has a deployment assist lever that works great for disabled guys.

What a great price!

On a side note… Minn Kota’s had the longest run time of any motors. They were the slowest by as much as .4 miles per hour (according to GPS) in any 55 to 60 lb thrust motor as I used. Both the Motor Guide and another no namer I bought were purchased used. Both were faster then the Minn Kota, both also did not have a “slow” enough speed to troll my 16 foot canoe at .3 or .4 Mph. That may not be a problem for a larger boat, but something to consider while on the water. The battery I used was always the same.

I suggest Everstart, Walley's top of the line. Not the longest running battery, but for the price they cannot be beat. Good luck!

I have a pro series 6700 on my 18 ft viper cobra and at the fast speed it will whip you around real good. I think that is plenty of thrust for mine.

Here is a cool trick, its a mod for a regular transom mount trolling motor, its a neat trick so you can mount it on the bow!,here is a link to another boat with the same set up http://www.bigfishtackle.com/cgi-bin/gforum/gforum.cgi?post=729789#p729789 what you do is open the housing to the motor, and remove a bolt and nut at the shaft, then you can turn it 180 and put back the bolt and nut,now you have a bowmount! good luck finding a motor, and happy fishing. P.S.its the cheaper way to go,if your like me, cheap, better than having to get one of those bowmounts like the ones on a bassboat
