ECHO UPDATE

We were there on saturday, very disapointed in the action, slow fishing, even for those that would move out or away then come back. I’ve been there several times this year and my opinion is, the best fishing is “first ice”. I’m sure the crowds didn’t help matters much and parking was no piece of cake either, turn-outs and everything near them were packed. Word to the wise… I understand they can and will ticket vehicles parked in areas that are NOT a designated turn-out. Time to adventure elsewhere, I hear east canyon is doing well, at least I can get a machine on the ice over there. Has anyone heard if they are putting four wheelers out there yet?

We went out Sunday, got there about 8:30 and parking was tough. We were fishing on the south end where the river comes in. We set up in about 10’ feet of water and fished for a couple hours and caught 2 fish. We moved out to about 15’ of water and the fishing was a little better, by 1:30 we had caught about 6 fish. From 2:30 to 4:30 fishing was fantastic, we ended up catching about 21 fish, all bows and half of them we nice big fat ones. The ice was about 14" thick. I had my new Kill Zone ice tent out for the first time and it was very nice. I’ve never fished with an ice tent and we couldn’t believe how nice it was, we had a heater and had our coats off, it was pretty much a great day!

Yup, sounds like East Canyon is definitely the place to be. Maybe the fish cops will be out ticketing Echo now that people are aware of the Pineview west end ticketing efforts may now be cooled down and them now knowing of illegal parking at Echo.
I’ll be out this weekend, maybe we’ll hit Rockport. With all the reports saying East Canyon being HOT it’ll be hard for me to pass it up.
Remember, if you are not in a designated parking area, or your vehicle is even the slightest bit on the road (even a mirror) they will ticket. East Canyon has plenty of parking as does Rockport for those wanting to get machines out especially. I’ve never seen problems with finding parking at EC or Rockport. Maybe that’s where we’ll head.

Ok got it careful where you park.

Take the information how you will, it’s just a public notice to help others.

I was up there yesterday with a buddy and we did alright. We caught 6 between the two of us, with 2 of them being pretty nice. Now time to smoke 'em.

I was also very surprised to have my fishing license checked yesterday evening. Of all the places - Echo reservoir on a Tuesday night - I wouldn’t think I would have been checked. It’s actually the first time in almost 15 years that I’ve had my license checked. It made me a little nervous when I pulled out my license and saw that it expired in January, but luckily, it had a few more days left on it . He also took a look at our catch and went on his merry way.

I think he gave someone in the parking area a ticket - but I don’t think it was a wildlife violation. Perhaps something to do with vehicle registration?

I wish he had of gotten to the ice a few hours earlier - my buddy and I had to clean up the mess of two SLOBS who were fishing when we got there. They threw their chocolate milk cartons and slim jim wrappers all over the place. I can feel the anger of others who report finding garbage on the ice now.

Overall, not a bad afternoon.

I was on Echo saturday and only had a couple of nibbles. Deffinately a change from the weekend before where we landed a fair amount. I Kept marking fish but they didn’t seem to be hungry or something. Thanks for sharing.
