Deer Creek

Where is the best place to ice fish Deer Creek? Only went once earlier this year and didn’t see a thing on the finder (wallsburg bay area). We were thinking about fishing the north side by the dam, the point that comes out there. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations as we will taking some youngsters and newbies and want to show them a good time catching fish.

Where do you catch perch at Deer Creek?

Anyone? We’re trying to decide between DC, Nelle, and the Berry? Would prefer DC if the fishing is any good.

The point on the north side up by the dam is quite a walk – great point for trout but not perch.

Perch are few and far between at DC this year.

Probably have a better chance at the Nelle for perch.

Hailstone and head to the personal watercraft launch - then head toward the tree on the opposite side of the bay.

Remember No OHV at DC but they’re OK at the Nelle!!

Hope this helps …

Thanks for your response. How close to dam can you fish at DC and is it any good?

There are not many perch at DC so come join us at the Nelle for a perch party.

We were thinking about it - a little worried about large crowds because we want to bring our new wolf hybrid pups and they haven’t had their second shots yet. Thought DC would be less crowded and more space. Might go to the nelle anyways. Any reports of decent fishing at DC?

jackson dc is okay but not much on the perch always done well for trout and browns and maybe a big carp out by the charleston boat ramp about 150 yards out in the river channel. always get more fish then i can keep

Just an FYI - NO Dogs allowed at DC – Culinary Water - thye will give you a ticket.. again I am just the messenger…

Nelle – Dogs are OK

So does the water get cleaned somewhere between Jordanelle and DC? Just wondering since it is such a short hop down the Provo from one to the other. To me that just doesn’t make much sense. This is directed at the message not the messenger.[;)]

It used to be much worse. When I was a youngster (probably about age 4 – which for those who don’t know me was over 50 years ago) I was fishing Deer Creek with my parents. I took off my shoes and was wading in the shallow water while I continued fishing. A boat came by with some kind of an official emblem on the side and yelled at me for wading in the water. They stated that Deer Creek was drinking water and wading was not allowed! I can only imagine what they would have done had they seen a dog wading in the water!

Or me Taking a whiz off the back of my boat when I’m walleye fishing at night.:face_with_tongue:

:sunglasses: Thats why I drink bottled water.

Many bottled waters are bottled in someones bathtub [sly]

I have friends that will no longer go to DC because they are tired of getting a ticket for having Dogs on their boat. They now just go to the Nelle.

:sunglasses:I am sure that all of the waterskiers and PWC operators come back in to use the “facilities” when “nature calls”. I am also positive that they all bathe in germicidal disinfectant before putting their bodies in the water.

I know of a couple of float tubers who got ticketed for fishing “wet”…without waders.

Definitely a slanted enforcement policy.

I remember a few years ago when the water at DC was really low, the week after the Labor Day weekend and the entire power brigade had had their last fling. The news stations did a report about how the water mysteriously tasted bad all of a sudden and they said something about how the water level at DC was the culprit. I guess there was not enough water to sufficiently diffuse all that was left behind. I just laughed but then I live upstream. :sunglasses:

The folks in Provo drink the water from DC. They insisted that no dogs be allowed in their drinking water supply. Can’t say that I blame them. The Nelles’ water has been sold to Summitt Country (a small portion of it). They have no such cluase in their contract. I think they use this water in a different way. On their yards and for irrigation. Nelles’ water is not drinking water as yet, as far as I know. But its hard to keep up on the changes here in Wasath Co.

But it may not be far off that Dogs will be barred from the Nelle. That seems to be what is happening Nationwide.

D C water comes to Salt Lake valley also. And so does Lake X. I remember when the water got tasting bad. That is when I went to Mt Olympus spring water. Not from a bathtub. I have seen the spring it ccomes from.

Thanks hlfmoon, I was unaware that the Nelles’ water was being sold to SLC. Bad tasting and dark water are a way of life here in Wasatch. They keep trying to assure us it is safe. I say when you open the tep and smell chlorine how safe is this water?

So bottled water is what we drink here also.

FYI DCs’ water was pumped all they way to Ogden during the draught years. They sell so much of our water I have to wonder why we pay taxes here.
