Deer Creek Halloween morning

Buddy and I took a morning trip to DC on Saturday. Everything was soaked and damp from the rain overnight but there were a few other diehards on the lake as well. Got on the water about 8am with air temp of 44 and water temp at 55. Fished for about 3 hours before the drizzle came along and chased us away. It never got bad but we both wanted to get back for the BYU and Utah games as well so planned for a short trip. Steady bites on the usual koke/trout trolling gear, used pink and green and both colors got bites equally. Ended up with about 20 fish and several long distance releases. Water was glassy all morning and extremely quiet with no lake lice chopping it up. The weather looks decent next weekend for now so I may keep going until I cant, although November is usually fast fishing at the berry so I may go there instead the next couple weekends.

You guys did great for only being there three hours. Were all the fish you caught Bows? If you go to Strawberry, my guess is most will be cutts but the bow numbers have increased.

yep, not too bad for a few hours. bites were pretty steady all morning and kept it fun. Only bows that morning, but they were feisty and put up a good tussle. I am anticipating cutts at the berry, but when I go up there in November, I usually catch those nice 18-21" cutts with an occasional bow mixed in. The fishing is usually fast and furious as theyre stocking up for winter.

Looks like some nice bows. That’s what I have found there lately. I think they are on average bigger there than at Jordy. I generally don’t keep rainbows, so I’ll probably stay with DC until December and then move to Jordy for the koke season opener. Also may hit Soldier Creek after Dec 1 for kokes until it freezes.

the average size of bow has definitely increased the last couple of years, thats for sure. Id definitely agree with you that they are bigger than what I catch at Jordy overall. DC is my go-to lake when I know I just want easy tugs, but I do like Jordy for the kokes and the variety of other catches available. Good luck!

For me it’s all about the season. Living in Provo, I probably fish Jordanelle more than any other local lake during kokanee season. I will take the occasional run to Strawberry/Soldier Creek, but especially with the cost of fuel, and the less than stellar catching on those waters, I generally stay more local.

In the off season, DC is much closer. If I just need a place to catch a couple bows, it’s hard to drive past. Also I can often pick up a few walleye at DC, though this year since September, I can’t get them to cooperate.

Can’t wait for Dec 1, kokanee opener. I’ll be back on Jordanelle.

Nice Fish! I was also there that morning. I think I about bumped into you with my float tube.
