With reports of 90% or greater open water, I decided to hit Deer Creek this morning with a buddy. We go there about 7am, and fished from the shore using powerbait and night crawlers. The worms did nothing, but I managed 3 nice bows each about 12.5" in length. 2 were male, and the one female immiediately dumped her eggs all over my pants when I was removing the hook. I managed to get some of the eggs back in the water, but I doubt that makes any difference.
Water was cold, and smooth until about 10:30ish, then someone flicked the switch, and the wind started blowing, and caused whitecaps.
Moved over to Rockport, and found wall to wall people fishing the Weber at the inlet, and only a little open water on the south end.
Headed over to Jordanelle, and tried a few lines, but the wind fnally blew us off the water. South end of the lake is open water, and about half of the Rock Cliff arm was open. North end was still iced, but it looked awfully thin.
The good news, is I was finally able to wash the Deer Creek skunk off me. I have never caught anything there before, and am glad I landed 3 decent sized bows. And the meat is just beautiful.
