i fished DC today leaving at about 10 or 11. i went to rainbow bay, it was alright getting on the lake just a little slush there. the ice was a good 5"-8" where i fished (i tried about 5 different places). I didnt do too good. only caught 1 rainbow trout. but atleast i didnt get skunked. I’m trying to find those perch out there. i was in a more rocky area, but hopefully i can find them tomorrow. But with the camera we saw 1 perch. i was thinking that was odd, i thought they usually stayed in big schools. But what do i know
Thanks for posting your report FW, too bad you didn’t find more fish. There could have been more perch around but the camera can only see a small area, maybe the others just didn’t come into the view. Good luck today hopefully you will do better. WH2
under ice look for perch shallow flat to 30 ft erly season mid season like now deeper larger flats to around 50 ft. this holds true where ever perch are found unless the place never freezes.[;)]
I fished DC on 1/11 also, but I was by the island (well was an island when the water is up). We started out in 13 feet of water south of the island, and only caught one, and didn’t see any on the fish finder. Thats when we moved to deeper water. We fished on the south side of the tip of the island, in 22 feet of water. I caught 11 planter bows the largest was 16 inches, but fat. The fishing was slow in the morning, but really fast from 12-1 in the afternoon. Most schools were on the bottom, with the occasional school right under the ice. I tried to find deeper water looking for perch, but the deepest I could find out there was 24 feet. I think the lake is down too far to find perch by the island, but I could be wrong. The ice is 8-10 inches, thick, and hard. Good safe ice. Normally I fish on the north side of the island, but there was open water there. Does anyone know why? I have fished there in the past when the ice was only 6 inches thick and it was never open before. If you go to DC I recommend deep water.
its probably open there because its where the river comes in now, since the lake is so low. But i went back to the same spot today and i caught 2 my buddies caught 2 nice 17". my two were only like 12" and 13" but fat also, all were rainbows, planters. Most of them are planters because they plant so many each year. I think ill go this next Wednesday by the island. was there a good spot to get on the lake or was it very challenging. since the lake has been rising it has been hard to find places to get on without falling through the ice. haha, my friend fell through the ice to his waste when he was getting on the lake, but he fell in deep to his waist because it was such a drop off. So there is about a 3-5’ gap to get on. unless you can find places where it is packed down slush or around 2" of ice on the edges.
