DC Scouting Trip 10/4

Hit DC to see conditions for a possible trip with grand kids on 10/18. Launched at 8:30 from state park. Just a few 8 trailers in lot. Water temp. 63 degrees. Powered across to the opposite side and saw numerous marks on and near the bottom. Started jigging and caught 2 smallies between 9 to 9:30. A 9 inch and a 7 inch took the skunk off the boat. Headed toward the far end slow trolling jigs for another hour. Changed over to lipless cranks for a while with no takers. Back to jigs for a while. All this time the water filled up with the power boats causing big waves that really bounce my little red boat. 11:00 changed to jointed rapalas in trout colors with scent. Had a 17 inch bow on before I got the second line out. Hooked up two more by 11:45 then nothing. Headed to the ramp about 2:00. 3 boats launching with a 5 boat waiting line to launch with more arriving(all powerboats). Water got up to about 66. All fish were released. One belly up trout ended up being lunch for a bald eagle. Air temp felt about 200*under the clear sky. All in all not a bad trip, but I don’t know if I trust having the kids on the boat with all the big waves that can hit without notice. May end up taking them somewhere else.
