Willard that is. Had an opportunity to meet up with Wiperhunter to run about Willard and chase some finny friends. Got floating just after 7, and it wasn’t long before we got to the island, and starting bouncing bottom.
Dropped down some marker buoys as the wind picked up, and I had the first take.
And it was a Walleye! Nice looking one, as it gave me the Houdini headshake, and was off. But - skunk was off.
Next off Wiperhunter’s planer board took a reel-dive, and a run - as a nice Wiper ripped some line. THIS time we got the net out. Not a huge one, but good fighter. He hooked up a 22incher a bit later (maybe he’ll post up that picture).
Also brought in several more Walleye, and then I finally hooked into another.
So folks’ve been talking about Bucket Lists. Check one off for me today - first Walleye. Due to some poor net-work on MY part, the last one fipped a fin and took a dive.[inline “Yote’s Walleye.jpg”]
Thanks guys. Always nice to set a goal, then to chalk it off. Been a few trips down to the mighty Willard that I’ve tried for 'em, but nice to see the same techniques work out. PLUS - as a bonus, I got 'em on my home-made worm harnesses. Think I need to explore some more color combos, but Wiperhunter was teaching me how to “feed” them - dropping back the rig when you feel a tap - let them get a good faceful before sweeping a hookset.
We boated 4 Walleye, 2 Wipers, had two other Walleye hookups that got off. But I can be certain there were a grundle of missed bites on the day. Never really got to trolling cranks, but we saw another boat that was on fire. Seemed like every time we looked up - they were reaching for the net again. Sure was nice to get out on a weekday - very little traffic on the lake, or at the launch.
Pretty sure they were all males, right around the 16inch mark, not monsters, but pretty fat and healthy.
