Crawdads in yet at 'Da Berry or Grantsville?

:sunglasses:All,
I’m thinking of taking my kids out for some crawdad catching and some bank tangling this Father’s Day weekend, but don’t want to if they aren’t showing up in big numbers around the shore yet… Is it too early, or are they out and about? Anybody noticed at either lake lately??

ANYBODY???

Also interested. One of the most fun kid-trips of the year.

I ususally don’t go until the weather is hot, I mean, summer hot, though…

We went to the berry a couple of weeks ago looking for some and only seen a couple. I hear by the dam in the rocks is a good place if you don’t have a boat. I usually set my trap up in the narrows.
Hope this helps some

I have only gone after them a couple of times. However, I found that the best way to catch them at strawberry was just go out there, stir up the silt along shore a bit (by the dam) and scoop them with a fine mesh fishing net. You can also go out after dark and they will be all over the place along the shore line. Again, just scoop them with a net. We caught 2-3x as many in the same period of time this way as opposed to using a trap

Raw chicken leg on strings will catch you all you want,Just chuck it out any where and wait 5 min slowly drag it in and net them as they follow it in and the ones that wont let go of it.Works every time.

I am also looking to go Crawdadin’ this weekend, maybe even tomorrow. I have only gone to strawberry, but I am wondering if there are any other good places?

And does the time of year matter?

BTW, I am a proponent of the raw chicken leg method as well.

:sunglasses:Yes, time of year matters. The 'dads seem to go out deeper until the summer time and then they come in closer to shore where it’s easier to catch them. That’s why I was asking if anyone has noticed them yet close to shore in my original post that started the thread. Usually they are in about now, but with the cooler/wetter weather we’ve had this summer so far, I was wondering if the 'dads are in close to shore yet…guess there’s only one way to find out since nobody has noticed…
