Stopped by strawberry for a few hours on Wednesday. Fishing was slow but the crawdads are everywhere. I only have one trap but it was pulling 25-30 per soak using a chicken leg in the trap as bait. We saw lots of people pulling them in every where.
Does anyone know a good way to transport lots of crawdads since they cant be alive when moved?
I have never really gone after them but I would just guess a cooler and ice…
Check out this page -

Has lots of info on catching, transporting, cleaning, etc. crawfish.
Wow, That had a lot of very useful info.
Thanks.
You’re Welcome
I am from Louisiana so maybe I look at this different, but why does this state not embrace crawfishing and let people transport them? They are so good when cooked right ( i would be happy to teach people) and a great activity for the family. We are going tonight to strawberry and we are cooking up there but I would love to bring some live crawfish home for a boil, LA style.

Probably for two reasons: 1) Don’t want them planted in other bodies of water (although I don’t think there are many bodies of water left that don’t already have them). 2) Possible spreading of disease from one body of water to another.
How long do you usually leave your traps in before checking them?
I check them them every two hours or so. I like to drop it somewhere around where I’m trolling at. If the area doesn’t produce I yank it and try another spot. I knew we had a good spot cause I could see them everywhere.
Curious - what kind of cage/catch do you use.I’ve got a minnow cage, but haven’t had any luck yet.
Though I did see a bunch of deadies at Hyrum.
I bought one of these traps and they work great!..or so I’m told. I usually just loan it out to friends because I like to buy things that I don’t have the time to use. They always want it when they go out to get the bugs.
This is just like mine…
We had a great time at Strawberry. My 3 kids caught about 30lbs in two hours. The weather was nice and the crawfish were good.
We fried up our tails in a garlic, dill butter sauce… OMG are they nummy. I’m headed to E.C. tonight and plan on soaking the traps in hopes of a few tails while salmming some smallies.
