took our grandson as he would say lobster fishing. i think he’s hooked
Huh, The only crawdads I have ever seen were brown. Maybe they were something else. At any rate nice catch!
when you cook them they turn that bright reddish color just like lobsters ![]()
I have been wanting to get out and try cradadin, I think my kids would get a kick out of it.
If you dont mind me asking where did you go? And how did you tranport them for cooking? I have read so many post that say they spoil quickly and are best eaten at the shore?
Thanks in advance!
Thats awesome! It’s like magic [bobhappy]
Whats that thing you can’t fix?[;)]
Very tasty there. Correct me if I am wrong but isn’t it against the law to bring them home?
It’s only illegal to transport them between waters. You can catch em and eat em all you want. There is a line in the proc that states “It is unlawful to transport live crayfish away from the water where they were captured.” However, in context it is referring to using live crayfish as bait.
I’m pretty sure the reg is that you can’t transport live dads period. Whether bait or boil - if you catch em, you gotta kill them there. You can put them on ice and take em home for a boil, but not while alive. And ice alone won’t necessarily kill them. Folks talk about a saltwater bath.
One option is to twist off the tails and put just those on ice, but then you don’t get the option to “suck the head” if you boil them in a good Cajun spice “soup”.
I didn’t catch a bucketful - but I enjoyed the monster I did land last year. I know Strawberry is often touted as a good water to 'daddin.
Dude! I love the JD plate!
Coyote is correct. They can not be transported alive from the water they were caught in. Take a camp chef a big pot, some crab boil and cook them on the shorline. Any you dont get eaten ( I never have that problem) you can put cooked on ice for transportation home.
Coyote is correct. . . .
HOLY CRAP!! Miracles can happen!!!
The pot/burner setup in the original post looks like a good way to go. Did you spice 'em up, or just boil 'em down? Ah butter-n-gaaaaalic.
whenever we go we take my big burner a box of salt and two gallons of water. one gallon to purge the dads and one gallon to cookem. when were about done for the day will cook them for about 1 min. enough to kill them then put them on ice and finish cookin when we get home that way we can put all the spice in with them also onions celery potatos etc etc. this little batch came from strawberry

I have only caught 1 and it grabbed my tube jig in Strawberry and he was huge…didn’t put up a fight like I had hopped…and why he didn’t let go??? He was my fishing friend then I released him…any Crawdad that can grab a tube jig in that deep a water…will be a lobster soon!

Best places to get em are Soldier Creek/Strawberry, Schofield, and Starvation. Soldier Creek/Strawberry is the best place. Don’t have to be fancy, get some chicken legs, tie on a piece of string, and throw it out. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then slowly drag it back to shore. The dads will cling to the chicken and when you get it in , scoop em up with a landing net. You can use up to 5 sets per person and can fill a 5gal bucket very quickly.
an after thought !! I believe that DWR has a video on their website about catching crawfish. Might be worth checking it out
