Channel cats from Utah Lake

I’ve been fishing the Knolls side of Utah Lake fairly heavily the last 3 weeks or so (I live in the Ranches in Eagle Mountain, 20 minute drive to the water), looking for that 10 pound channel cat. I’ve caught 3 eight pounders now and a half dozen or so 4-5 pounders, still working on the double digit cat though. Here’s a pic of the first 8 pounder from about 2 weeks ago.

Welcome to BFT and thanks for posting. I am also in search of my first 10 pound cat (sadly, would be my first). Looks like you are fishing from shore. Have you noticed any particular time of day being better than another time?

I’ve caught the three 8 pounders in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Go figure. As summer comes it seems to be better at evening into the night and then late summer seems to be better very early to mid morning. A friend of mine from work showed me the ropes with catfishing last summer and I’ve been hooked (pun intended) ever since. Always catch better with cut bait from Utah Lake as well, ie. carp or white bass.
