Got on the water for a short trip at 4:30. Found some bass busting in shallow water. I threw everything in the boat at them and at one point had eight rods on deck. No to soft swimbait - no to hard swimbait - no to spinnerbait - no to senko - no to soft jig - no to spoon - no to pop r - no to sppok - What do I have to do? I just read a Bassmasters artiicle on downsizing lures - so I did and that was the ticket. Caught nine all schoolies - best one about 2.5 fatty. They were not packed tightly and sporadic so it was hard to get a lure in front of them a lot of times because they were just out of casting range or they didnt stay up long. I was checking time on my watch and caught one on a long pause so I went to that retrieve and caught a few more. They were just slurping it not a hard hit. They finally stopped so I ran down to the nuke to see if any white bass around and got a nice surprise when I spotted some big fish on sonar. I dropped a jigging spoon thinking I would catch a big cat - caught a small cat - dropped the spoon again and caught a yellow bass - dropped it again and bam! Line was screaming off the reel. Put the trolling motor on high and started to chase. Fish was deep at first and thought I had one of DKs pets but then it accelerated and headed up and I thought Paddlefish!! Sure enough it was when I finally got it up to the surface. Got next to the boat and it took off again - about ten minutes later with my wrist aching I finally got it next to the boat and grabbed it by the tail and hauled it aboard - it took two hands to get her on board and she was round I mean nice a fat and healthy - Took a picture - grabbed ny pliars - pulled the hook - and put her back in the water to fight another dfay! emoFish That was a great way to end the day emoDance Stopped at one more spot on way back to CFP but nothing happening there.
