Burbot?

[:/]What is a burbot? are they good eating? What lakes and reservoirs they located in?
I know sounds dumb but I have never seen one.

They are an invasive species that has made its way down the Green River and down into Flamging Gorge Reservoir. That is the only place to find them in Utah. They are unwanted, and you should kill and keep any that you catch. They are supposed to be very good eating.

Thanks for the info. Id like to get rid of some of them but thats a little to far to drive.

You aught to hitch a ride with someone to the Burbot Bash. We are car pooling as I’m sure many other poeple are. Its gonna be a blast!

Burbot is…

an excellent meal served with butter

a bottom feeding fish that loves crawdads

a fairly good fighter through the ice hole

a nightmare to the DWR

I’ve got some pictures of some I caught last year but I can’t seem to find them . I’ll keep looking but here is a picture of one on the Burbot Bash T shirts.

:sunglasses:FLAMMING Gorge?

Who did the spell check?..the burbot?

They have been found below the Dam @ the Gorge.

Hey, everyone knows a burbot can’t spell[;)]. Good catch, no one has noticed that one yet, a few people caught that it will be in 2009, not 2008 :astonished:. Lucky for us, no Tshirts have been printed yet. I’ll let Todd know ASAP. We are planning on having some printed up in advance for those that want one in advance and for everyone that will be helping me during the Bash. Are you planning on being there Pat?

:sunglasses:Not sure if I will make it. Got some potential out of town stuff on the dance card.

Are you sure that Petty didn’t come up with that spelling? Seems to me that was how he spelled it on the archive board when he was handling that.

i caught the spelling error on Flaming right off just didn’t say anything. Google spell check is awesome

LOL, no, the owner of the T shirt company just made up the printing with the burbot and wording. I’m surprised no one else noticed it but I’m glad you saw it because I just sent in a order today:blush:.

Makes me wonder if he is Flamming?[;)]

I just caught my first burbot yesterday. They are very ugly and challenging to fillet, but the best eating that I have had. You definatley have to get out and catch some. I fished for them at Fire hole boat ramp which is off a road in between Green River and Rock Springs.

Not yet, but it’s only a matter of time. They’ve been found all the way down to Mustang Boat Launch so far.

Are they a good fighting fish? I might have to head up there sounds fun.

I’ll be fishing for them for the first time this weekend. I will be leaving Evanston. From there head to Green River then turn off at rt. 530? Then where and how far is the turn off?

Any advice for fishing for them besides glow jigs?

Thanks-
Pacs

They usually don’t give a memorable battle until they get out of the hole and wrap their tails around your arm like a boa constictor! They’re fun to fish for, and in most ecosystems, they’re considered an elusive fish that’s tough to catch. The Gorge has some really high catch rates, so take advantage. Ryno
