I am getting ready to go out to Rockport with CAST for Kids and have not been to RP yet this year. I would like to guide those kids to some fish so any information would be helpful. The event is on the 9th. Thanks in advance.
I haven’t been there in the summer for years. We used to catch perch by just moving around cast form shore until we would find them using a small jig tipped with a worm and a bobber once we found them. Trolling orange rapalas for trout. Never bass fished there but I think it would be good using your normal tatics ![]()
i went up there on the 16th and caught a dozen or so small bass with small jigs tipped with a worm(it was my first time ever deliberatly fishing for bass) over along the rocky cliffs by the outlet. I also trolled around a little and caught a decent bow with a shasta cripplure, hope it helps.
I just got back from camping for 5 days at Rockport. We actually did better from shore than we did from boat. From boat we were tossing jigs and curly tails with not much luck. We then tried where the river ran into the lake, pulled right into the river, about 100 yards, and it was non-stop action for decent smallies and rainbows for the better part of 2 hours (from abotu 6 to 8 pm).
We tossed #2 spinners in silver, let it drop for a count of 2 before retrieving. We also dunked worms under a weighter float so my kids could see when they were getting strikes, and they weren’t disappointed.
We ended up with quite a few smallies, the largest about 12" and some 'bows on powerbait. The largest 'bow was fat, fought hard, and 3 lbs. I couldn’t get the camera phone working and couldn’t find the actual camera so no pics. But we had a blast and the kids weren’t disappointed.
The ranger said other folks were limiting out on smallies pretty quickly along the west side of the lake tossing senkos. Hope it helps.
Thanks for the info. We went after perch last year with he kids and they caught lots and had fun too. We usually catch them near the river.
We were there a few weekends ago fished from the shore near the 3rd bathrooms. We Did alright caught some pretty good sized trout on sparkle fluorescent green power bait. Caught a few small Bass in the 8 to 10 inch range seems the bass would hit a worms near the shore line
Here is a link to my posting of rockport about 2-3 weeks ago, it is on page 9 (I think) look for FishNCoach and Rockport review.
The fishing was fantastic, about 14-19" and use port gear and a worm if trolling, and from the bank worm below a bobber about 4-5 feet down. GOOD LUCK[;)]
Thanks for all the advice. The event is this Sat. I hope to get into the fish so these kids can catch some. I will post pics after the event.
