Any Strawberry Updates?

I am very ready to hit the ice at Strawberry. Supposedly the weather report is that the temps should not get above freezing all week up at the Berry. And the night temperatures have been very low. Do you think there will be safe ice by Saturday? If any of you hear any updates on the ice please post them here.

The last report I heard was that there was skim ice on Mud Creek… and that was 2 days ago. If temps keep low like they have been, then there should probably be safe ice in thenext week or so. Call Strawberry Bay Marina before you head up, and they can give you an update.

My experience is that the marina will give you a VERY conservative update on ice conditions. They can’t risk saying the ice is safe and have you fall through. [:)]

I agree with Bigcat they don,t want to be liable.

I disagree- I have called them every year for the past 10 years and they tell me how it is. They have told me “There’s 3”, so be careful" and they have told me “There’s 5” so you should be fine."

Here is the skinny as of Wednesday 1pm, Mud Creek has ice in the back of the bay and someone has been out fishing on it. There is still alot of open water where the boat ramp is. The small bay by the day use area to the east of the marina has ice but most of the lake is open.
Deer Creek doesn’t seem to have any ice.
Rockport will probably cap tonight as Echo did last night, there was very little ice on either lake on tuesday but yesterday Echo had completely capped, a pleasant sight.
Scofield is on the schedule for sunday with the kids, this will be our first trip of the year.

Thanks for the update. :sunglasses:

We went snowmobiling last night around the Strawberry area and the lake is wide open. No ice yet. Getting very ancy my self.

Thanks for the update- does CCE (Chicken Creek East) have any ice? It normally freezes about the same time as mud creek? How about the small bay next to CCW (Chicken Creek West).

We were over by East Portal and Haws point area. The temp was 12 degress. Ice has got to be coming soon.

Drove by today and someone was on the soldier creek side but it looked scary as hell to me, looked like around the ladders should be ready soon.

Last evening the wind was pushing the thin skin around Chicken Creek and not much shore ice at all. I too saw 2 guys at Soldier Creek near hwy 40 but they were in maybe 50 yds and at 100 yds there was open water. Looked like you could still cast from shore all along the ladders area.

Anyone up for going on Sunday the 16th? I wanted to go last week but didn’t make it. I’m a little farther from Scofield so wanted to try the Berry if I can.
