**Drove by Strawberry today. NO ICE! Well a little forming on the shore lines. It was 15 degrees at 7 am and 28 degrees at 2:30 pm. The wind was relatively calm, especially at CCE. Hopefully in a week with the cold weather coming. My buddy and I did ice some fish today in the Uintah Basin, including one 21 inch cutthroat. **
[#002850]Thanks much for that report there PK. I was just thinking about posting up asking if anyone knew what the conditions were. You read my mind.
Did you go check out mud creek or just looked from the highway? thanks!
Hey Rob, do you ever go to Moon lake during ice up?
I have only ice fished Moon Lake on the ice once. It was last year, and I was disappointed. I plan to do it again in the future for redemption. I fished a private fishery today. Had 12 inches of nice ice to drill through.
I did not drive over to Mud Creek, but I would think it also needs another week. I am going next weekend back out to where I was at today, if there is fishable ice on the Berry I might take a detour.
No ice on mud creek. It hasn’t changed much during the past week. Fished it from the shore for a couple hours behind the lodge and caught 4.
Polokid and MGB… thanks for the mud creek update. We were fishing it by now last year and the year before! I keep hoping!
Maybe Geoff Ubanks can chime in here and tell us exactly when mud creek will be ready to ice fish! [;)]
That’s funny. Matt Selders on the KSL outdoors show last saturday said all the bays were frozen at strawberry. I knew he was full of it when I heard him say that but felt bad for any poor fellow that drove up there on his bad info.
Thats kinda funny! [:)] If people would just use a more reliable source (BFT) for their ice updates there wouldn’t be that problem.[;)]
my ice fishing gear is calling me from the garage!!! But I’m a big boy so have to wait for 8 inches or so before I step out there[:(]
I’m 6’3" and pushing 3 bills. Want me to walk ahead of you? 4 inches is good enough for me as long as I have someone willing to throw me a rope!
yeah that’d be great. went out on soldier creek last year on 5 inches last year(thought it was thicker). I like swimming but not this time of year.
Sunday 12/09 12:am drove by Strawberry, it was 6 degrees.
I guess it was realy Monday morning.[:)]
LOL, Bigcat. Since you asked for it, I’d say by about this Sunday, but perhaps not until midweek next week. Somebody will have a report on here b4 anyone else knows it’s frozen, just like last year and the year b4 that. MGB is usually one of the culprits, as is fishn4fun who doesn’t post on here much until this time of year…
Was up there Saturday at mud creek. There was a group ice fishing there. Was not frozen all the way out. They were fishing on two and a half inches and had iced about 15 fish. We float tubed beyond the shelf. Wish I would have had the ice gear!
That area has been frozen for over a week. Correct me if I am wrong, there is nothing frozen past the Mud Creek boat ramp.
I wonder if anyone (namely me) should consider daring to launch their boat out of the Marina this weekend?
Assuming the 2 degree water temp drop per week has remained in place, it s/b right between 32 and 34 by the weekend of the 15th. Does that sound right?
If so, that’s too tight…
Thats a tough call. The strawberry marina parking lot has a lot of snow on it. It has not been plowed. There are alot of snowmobiles in the way plus the parking lot is being used to store the docks. there is not alot of room left. It could be very tough to launch a boat at the marina. If your boat is small enough and you have a good 4X4 you might be able to lauch at mud creek. That road has not been plowed plus the bay could ice over any day. I do admire your dedication to boating but I think you should get your ice fishing gear out.
Thanks for the update. I’ve really been craving panfish through the ice lately, but if Mantua isn’t ready yet this weekend (and I don’t think it will be) then it sounds like Mud Creek (it was gonna be my 2nd option) would be a pretty dang good choice for some big fat cuts. Hope it’s not too crowded now that the cat is outta the bag.
Had completely forgotten about the parking lot. Thx for the field report and the reality check. Boat’s too big to launch out of mud creek.
I really appreciate the feedback; spares me from having to mull it over endlessly over the next couple of days.
Not a 4th season fisher, so I wish (all) you the best on the ice.
