I decided to spend some quality time at mantua. I went there yesterday late afternoon, and was hoping for some panfish action, which mantua is always good for. I got there and noticed that the weeds have not fully come in yet, however the trout were jumping like mad. I threw everything I had out there, worms, spinners, rapalas, only to catch nothing. To add insult to injury, there were fish jumping literally right next to my bobber
Anyways, I decided to move around more, and take less time at different spots. I wound up on the west shore, and started using a perch patterned rapala. One of my first casts out there I felt a thump, which felt pretty strong. After a few more casts I felt a huge jolt, and realized that I had a fish on. I reeled him in and caught my first ever largemouth bass. It was awesome! Anyways, I was going to keep him to bbq at my parents in law (you know to impress them[:p]) but the freakin fish knocked the bucket over and slid right out into the lake, probably to warn his fellow bass to look out for perch patterned rapala. I’m guessing that’s what happened because I got nothing after that.
It seemed that it was kind of slow for most people I talked to, with the exception of a family that claimed to have caught 13 trout on power bait. I also saw a guy pull in a bass on a purple worm. Nonetheless Mantua is a beautiful lake and I felt lucky to be there!
