2017 Utah Disabled Veteran Fishing Event

SLH,

Thank you very much. We’ve got you down for two vets. All the information about the event is on the 1st post. Are you needing additional information above that?

I Think I have found out everything I need to know.
It sounds like I just need to let you know how many I can carry and be there first thing in the morning. When I get there I could definitely use some advice on where to take people. I have been to Strawberry a few times this year and caught a few fish. But at this point I would not be very comfortable “guaranteeing” a good catching trip just a fishing trip.

my boat is a 18 foot Crestliner

SLH, I’m in the same situation. Not been to Strawberry in over 10 years, and never to Soldier Creek. Don’t know how to fish either place. Don’t want to take a Vet out to get skunked, but want to at least get one on the water to make a effort. As I am a Veteran also, and may someday be in the same situation they are in, I guess you could say I’m “paying it forward”.
Just look for the little 14’ Lund with the guy at the tiller with a confused look on his face…[:/] [fishon]

Eric there is good fishing right out from the marina along that north shore to the bay on the east end. You could do a little drift fishing with a nightcrawler and some powerbait with a bubble. You could also troll that area with a worm harness/wedding ring with a little weight to get it down and have success that way as well. I will see there.

Ya’ll who need tips for fishing the lake, ask around to others before you go out or those who you see catching.

Vet day everyone is pretty open about what the fish are biting and where they are biting.

I bring lots of extra white tube jigs and chub meat that day for sharing.

Ill take too dav with me glen harward 24 ft Hurricane thanks

What an awesome event! I wish that I could participate in it this year.

Since I don’t exactly have a boat, I might wanna participate as a vet. If one of you guys could be kind enough to give me some pointers and tow me out to a decent spot in my little inflatable POS, I’d really appreciate it. I’m not really much of a social person these days, so that might be a little better even if there was open seats in a real boat.
How much rope might I need if I wanted to drop an anchor to keep from getting blown to somewhere else? Is that even something I should be concerned with? I’ve only ever been there once, and it was only on the shore.

Headed to the store tonight. What size of white tube jigs should I pick up for Friday?

I fish anything from 2.5" Fresh water basics to 4". Doesn’t seem to matter much.

I like salted ones better than not.

We’ll see you Saturday!

***“We will start boater registration and launching boats at 06:00 at the boat ramp.”

***I participated in this 2 years ago, but I don’t remember how the boat launching went. It sounds like we’re not to launch our boats until we’re registered there, so we would show up and boats would be launched in an orderly fashion. Is that correct? I assume we shouldn’t go ahead and launch early?

You can launch early if you want you’ll just need to come up to register so we can then assign a vet to your boat. We will be set to register boaters by 6:00.

Do you need any additional boats? Also, is the DWR involved with this at all? Let me know as I just found out I could potentially make it work this year. Thanks.

What’s your question/concern regarding the DWR?

Igottabigone,

Yes we recently had a couple boaters back out so we could use you. Thank you for the phone call and willingness to come up and help. After speaking with Derik Murdock with the DWR it was determined that this event will count towards service hours in the dedicated hunters program. Any and all volunteers that are part of this program I will be your POC for signing off your service hours.

Thanks Trevor, I had no idea that’s what the question regarding DWR was about. Not something I participate in and don’t have much awareness of. It’s great to know now that we can sign those off for folks. Did you get any guidance from the DWR on how many hours to put down?

Glad you called Trevor to discuss this as I had no idea what your reference to DWR was. I’ve never been a participant in the dedicated hunter program so wasn’t on my radar. Good to know from now on that we’ll be able to credit this event for participation in that program.

See you up there and thank you for supporting this event.

I was instructed by the DWR that only hours worked with count towards the service hours for this program. Travel time will not. If a user brings up a boat or uses any personal equipment or supplies up to half of his working hours can be counted. In other words if you work an eight hour day you can claim an additional four hours for equipment, i.e. boat, fuel, tackle, etc…

I’m glad we were able to get this project approved. I believe I had four boat captains that made inquiries about this just this year.
