2017 Utah Disabled Veteran Fishing Event

Based on feedback the majority of boaters want the event held in July when the Kokanee fishing is still good. The earlier the better.

Top..:sunglasses:

put me down for 1 or 2 vets .

Will shore fishing likely be productive and appropriate there?

If so, then there might be disabled veterans who for whatever reasons might prefer shore fishing. That has been my preference for the last several years. It would be great to match me up with some well in advance for me to have a chance to accommodate special needs as I’m more resourceful when knowing to specifically prepare.

I have plenty of tackle and lures to share and can also teach some techniques. But, I have no experience with this location, so those among us who are experienced shore fishermen with the area are invited to help me know which lures from my collection that I should bring in quantity (I have much more than will fit in my vehicle) and check on us before boats launch and even during the fishing to give pointers on location, depth in the water column that is most active, point out which lures are best choices, technique coaching, etcetera. Also, those disabled veterans who experience difficulties in a boat yet still want to fish, are invited to join the group.

I’m in Sandy and I can also take one disabled veteran from near me in my vehicle.

We’ve got you on the list. Thank you sir![;)]

PM sent.

Bump:slight_smile:

WOW 12 boats for 22 vets with a month to go. We need some more volunteers. I had the vet I took out last year call me last night and he is looking forward to another trip. I offered to take hime out next friday as well. Donate your time and you won’t be sorry, you just might make a lifelong friend.

Jekern1015,

Generally we see a big outpouring in the last week or two, but yes we normally have more of our regulars signed up by now.

Please, if you’ve never participated in this event I promise you won’t be disappointed. Every year it just gets better and better. For the folks that have come out in the past, you know how rewarding this is. We need each and every one of you to make this happen. Please PM or get in touch via email or phone to volunteer.

TEAM,
just got an update from the VA hospital and they have 80 vets signed up for our event next month. They are so excited about it and many keep telling the staff that this is their favorite activity each year! You all are the ones that make that happen bringing your boats up and taking the people out fishing for a day. Contact your family and friends that may be able to bring a boat and help us out. We need seats for another 65 or so anglers.

Thank you all for your continued support for this event. Without your support we could not have this event.

I appreciate you all,

How about many of you who are regulars on here, whether you post or not, volunteering to take a vet, or two, fishing? It is quite painless and greatly appreciated by those who have sacrificed so much to allow us the freedoms we often take for granted.

I would like to volunteer my 16 ft. boat and myself.

I don’t have any downriggers or planners, but I believe that with weights or dipsy-divers I would be able to reach the fish. I have a few koke lures that I won this year and fished with liketrolling a few weeks ago to learn techniques. I have lots of crankbaits.

My Tracker boat has removable pedestal seats so I could take one guest in a wheelchair or have seating for two guests. Bimini top installed also.

Thanks so much for volunteering to be part of our event. No need to worry about trying to fish for Kokanee if you’re not used to that. You can catch lots of trout jigging, bait fishing, or trolling cranks. Most of the vets don’t care what kind of fish they catch. Many of them just appreciate the experience and the opportunity to get out on the water.

I have volunteered to be there to help in any way I can be of use. But I have never been on Soldier Creek, and only on Strawberry twice over 10 years ago, and in a bigger boat. I would really hate to get one of our Vets out on my little boat and get him skunked [:/]. I could still bring my boat, 14 ft. Lund with 15 HP Merc., self inflating PFD’s, Bimini top that doesn’t shade the bow seat, no down riggers, no planer boards, and no experience on that body of water.

We’ve got you on the list BURLEY, Thank you very much!!

Team we still have a looooong way to go if we’re to get all our vets out on the water that’s signed up. If you’re on the fence, do it. I promise you won’t regret it. [;)]

I am willing to go up with you this coming Friday to show you a few good spots. We can take my boat our yours. My days off work are Friday and Sunday. Let me know

Is this event limited to boat fishing only?

Are there any of our disabled veterans wanting to fish yet would have trouble on a boat or for whatever reason might prefer shore fishing?

I greatly appreciate our veterans!

Appreciate the offer, but will just be getting back from UL late Wednesday or early Thursday.

No worries about that my friend. This isn’t a contest so folks are pretty willing to share information on where and how. Most of the vets we take out on this event don’t get any other opportunity to get out in a boat and really just are grateful and enjoy the experience.

Add me to the list again this year.

I’m completely set up for two anglers to fish until their arms fall off.

I have downriggers, poles and all the tackle.
