Water temp - 55 degrees
Slightly windy at times during the day, but warm and sunny for the most part.
Reeled in my FIRST EVER northern pike at 7:46AM. 27 inches long, and 7.5 lbs. healthy and REALLY pissed off. He swallowed the lure pretty good and he was sure to let me know he didnt like it being there. Reeled it in he ran out about 75 yards or so, reeled it in he ran out about 50 yards, reeled it in and got him on shore! I was squeelin like a teenage girl!
Didnt catch anything else, although a had a few nibbles, and I took off around 4. I met pezvela down there and got to lend a hand helping him with loading his boat. Great guy, looking forward to fishing with him soon

Dude congrats that is awesome you got your first pike!! I love the way they fight . I was out there too but i did not fish that much i was mostly doing some recon for the ice fishing. Did the advice from others here help you catch your pike?
Again, congratulations. Your first pike is a perfect example of how this forum can work. You showed a desire to catch a pike, asked questions, got answers from lots of experienced members of the board, followed their advise and now you have a pike and have some experience behind you so you can share with others. Great job.

Were you on the blue and white triton? I passed 2 boats when i was there i was thinking that might have been yours i thought about coming over and saying hi.

My boat is a triton but its black and white. A bay boat, similar to a bass boat. You should have came by. Did you catch any pike? I managed one but it was small, 26", I’m guessing.
I also drifted a bottom bouncer in the wind down the middle of the reservoir thinking I might catch a walleye, but it wasn’t in the cards.
I talked to the DWR aquatics biologist today regarding what happened to the walleye. He said that he believed they were still there in great numbers (like the pike) but there is so much feed in Yuba that they are not taking lures with so much prey available. He hopes they will be available next spring. I hope that he is correct.
I’m going to keep hammering Yuba in hopes of that 25lber although I should be fishing Strawberry. Oh well, you do what you have to. Tight lines
I guess i was right that was you. You have a nice boat.We did not catch any pike but we fished mostly by the dam and the rockpile. I dont know much about catching pike but i always catch them on the smallest lures while perch fishing.Biggest pike i have caught was 33 inches on a 1 inch chartreuse grub.As for walleye numbers we will find out in the next 2 years how many are in there when the perch are non existent then they will have to take lures. If you get a 25lber or heavier you will get the state record keep that in mind good luck out there i will be down at yuba this sunday.
I think the next two years the new state record pike will be pulled out of there, with how many fish they have to feed on it seems like they aught to start getting monsterous in there.
