Yuba Lake Nighter

Fished from 5PM Sat to 10AM Sun, Pike and Perch biting good. Walleyes did not cooperate at all. Biggest Perch 13’’ and biggest pike 28’'.Nice weather and Moon.

Cool. I’ll bet it was fun wrestling some of those northerns.

Yes it was. Kinda strange they are so delicate, it would seem they would be a tough fish. The water was 70 and probably not good for releasing fish. They fight good and exhaust themselves. Really wanted the Eyes, they were not around anywhere.

Did you catch any trout? I know that the techniques for catching trout at Yuba are different than those generally used for perch, walleye, and pike, but occasionally trout will bite on the bottom bouncers and jigs used for the other species. They certainly respond to the crankbaits we generally use for walleye and pike.
Also, I was wondering if the trout population at Yuba has been affected by the huge perch population and the pike. I really don’t know, I was just wondering.
Furthermore, it appears to me that the pike survived the Yuba water drainage program better than the walleye. The earliest netting results on Yuba after the low water found pike but no walleye. Do you think it is going to take more time for the walleye to rebound?
It will be great when we can keep some of the perch. I think it was TubeDude who suggested that the huge perch population can’t be that good for the walleye fry.

No Trout. I would say there are more Pike and Perch than Walleyes. Couldn’t buy a Walleye bite.

There are still some trout around they are long and skinny! They look like they are starving to death. Since the perch explosion a couple of years ago they dessimated the fathead minnow populations which the bows were feeding on. Right now you can find the trout really deep in the afternoons and they come shallow in the early mornings and evenings. Worms and powerbait are working realy good there for trout if the perch dont clean your hooks off.:face_with_tongue: Give the walleyes a couple more years and the numbers would be up. Since roughing it outdoors showed that they caught walleyes everyone seems to think that they are there in abundance. Silly people!!![sly]

I agree. There in there but not populated like some would think, theres probably more Pike than Walleyes.
