It’s been fun seeing all the reports from Willard. There’s just something about those wipers that really get the heart pumping. Then when the DWR posted some info on their facebook page (on the 25th of March) about the spring gillnetting at Minersville, I decided it was time for some “southern style” wipers.
Wow. I love the sound of the drag going off when one of these pigs hits! Those words made famous by Jason Muenzer certainly fit the bill: “It’s a screamer!!”
I just got off the phone with my brother standing on the shore at Minersville. He said there was a huge hatch of some kind of tiny bugs at Minersville just as the sun was setting this evening.
He said the whole lake came up, he ran down and caught 9 and lost a couple. All big trout and one was a slot buster Cutt.
I was sitting on jordanelle once and a hatch happened. The fish went nuts. I caught a nice bow on ultralight tackle. My buddy couldn’t believe it either.
i see this happen a lot. Usually after everyone is off the water. Just before dark. Mostly in the summer and fall… I need to go check minersville out. Its like a EC on roids… Awesome fish!
