Willard N. Marina Ramp Closed 7-20-07

:sunglasses:Made a non-fishing run to Brigham City this morning. Stopped by the north marina area to check out some potential launch spots for float tubes near the NE corner. Found a goodun.

Bad news for boaters. There is a sign at the gate advising that the boat ramp is now closed. It looks like the water level has made a pretty good drop in the last couple of weeks. There was one boat trailer in the parking lot, and a couple of PWCs playing just off Eagle Beach. Otherwise, a barren lake. Time for the tubers and tooners to take over.

sounds really good to me !!! I really need to get out and go fishing. I haven’t been for crap this year with family and scouts i have been just tooo busy it seems.
thanks pat

Thanks for the heads up. Even if it’s sucky news.[unsure]

I geuss I’ll have to spend the gas money to go to E.C. or Echo now. Pineview is just a joke this year. Somebody’s gonna die up there this year, you can count on it.

I was just out there last night and the south docks were still open. I was amazed at the size of the boat this guy was putting in there, i was only showing 2-3ft of water. what a beautiful evening last night, got one walleye and lost a wiper at boatside who busted my 28lb leaded, he was a fun fight though but the stinker took my one last lure that was my deadly weapon. Did get some awesome pictures of the sunset and some not so awesome pics of the haze. There were alot of boats out there last night. the one guy i talked too when leaving around 9:45pm said he didnt see any boils either. I’m sure someone out there seen some though, the water was like glass.

YOu and Boy Scouts together? Thats a scary Thought[angelic]:astonished:[sly]

I too was out on Willard via the south marina last night. I was actually looking for you to say hi. But I didn’t see a single girl out there. (Trust me, I was going to be very careful before yelling “hey Lisa”.)

I only caught one wiper an seen no boils. Actually, that’s pretty normal for Willard every year … there’s about a 2-3 week flurry of boils and then it comes to a screeching halt for about a month. I suspect that we may start seeing boils again in a couple weeks.

I’m going out again tonight. I’m a glutton for punishment.

:sunglasses:When I stopped by Willard today, the first thing I noticed was how dirty the water was. Wipers are sight feeders, especially when it comes to finding and feeding on the shad fry. The wind blows the fry all over the place and muddies the water…making it harder for the wipers to find them and eat them.

**I personally doubt that there will be any boil activity until there are several days in a row of fairly calm weather so that the cleaner water can return. Green water is boil water. **

You use 28 pound leader, or is that a typo?

for a closed marina ther was alot of boat trailers in the lot today.dont get yer hopes up to fast tooner dude.[;)]

:sunglasses:Just passing along what the sign said. There will always be folks with “coconuts” who think they can launch in a teacup full of water.

[;)]In responce to fishing East Canyon, My friend just came back from there and said the fish are really small this year and the fishing sucked for him, do not want you to make a trip for nothing, but any fishing is fun right?

Kent, it sounds like she was using lead core line. When the fish are hanging deep, it is a good method and as hot as it has been, that might be where they are. Cats and eyes hang deep a lot of the time but wipers are usually 7 to 8 ft down. Ira and I have been known to brake out the lead core from time to time, even at Willard.

I think you are right – my bifocals let me down. I have resorted to using my downrigger at Willard, and I have used leaded line up there to catch the walleye.

I just called Willard Bay, the woman that answered said launching is still allowed at your own risk.

The sign does say the boat ramp is closed, but that’s more to let people know that launching may not be the best idea (a lawyer probably had something to do with it).

So if you want to risk it, know this: They’re not going to be ticketing people, or expelling them or shaking fists at them, for launching.

i do have 28lb leaded on my pole right now, i just adjust my weights or no weights depending on where i want to be depth wise. I had this line initially for alaska trolling so i’m using up my supply before i go lighter. I think i had on a 1/2oz wt and was out 30yds from the boat, had to hold the pole so i could feel the bottom when turning S curves and would reel in according but tried to stay right close to the bottom.

thanks for the heads up on the color of the water TD, i didnt know that about wipers.
