Thanks guys for the great day on the water. Nice meeting you Mike, and seeing you again Rocky. Hopefully we cross paths on the water again soon.
My wife ended up with a limit of Wipers caught, but the biggest one didn’t want to get into the basket so, it’s still out there swimming around. We each landed a crappie in the marina area to top off the day.
**It was great to be on the water with you again, Glenn. It was especially nice to have Patty be able to join us. I think you got a tubaholic on your hands. Gonna have to finish getting her craft rigged up with a motor and sonar. As “willful” as she is I am sure she will be reminding you…and providing incentive.
I was really happy to hear that Patty broke the code and got into some wipers. That was her main goal for the day. Good that she got some tugs. Sorry about the big one. But that helps create memories…and hones the desire to return for a rematch.
Pat, was looking at some pics on You Tube last night and I kept seeing pics of some dudes left arm and hand holding all kinds of fishies !! It was a very familiar arm and hand, YOURS !! Did you know that your left hand and arm are very distinctive !! Glad you got into some fish today, as we did not. We are going to try Deer Creek next Wednesday, weather cooperating !! Got to many family things going on the next two weeks, but need to try Willard, need some crappies for the deep fryer !!
I thought you might choose today to check out Willard. I too ventered out among the masses, when I first launched I took a turn where I usually see you but never seen you. Glad to hear you had a decent day.
**Weather and commitments will likely keep me off the water this next week. But any time after that I would be happy to join you on the water.
I’m thinking the current high activity level is likely to continue for a while. Wipers are in prespawn mode. They are horny and hungry…very active. Like human teenagers. The ones I brought home were still healthy…from eating a lot of winter-killed shad. But they had no food in their tummies. Until the shad spawn and the young are big enough to eat the predators gonna be hungry.
Oh yeah…about that hand and arm. That is actually my version of a “selfie stick”. Easier to use a prosthetic arm to hold those fish out. My old arms are getting less able to do that kinda thing.
But you are right. Look up almost any species of Utah Fish and click on “images” and you will see a lot of my “public domain” contributions.
The crappies are dining well on emerging midge larvae. They all had full stomachs and they produced nice thick fillets. The eggs in the females are starting to swell to spawn size, but they will not all spawn at once…especially in this up and down weather and temperature pattern. I caught several male crappies too. They were just beginning to turn darker. Again, a week or two away from the big spring fling.
Lemme know if you want a whiny float tuber to ride with you and download whatever it is I think I might know about that stuff. I think we have just about run out of excuses for not fishing together again.

**Sorry I missed you Gary. Always good to share some water with you…even if we are of different “religions”.
My original plan was to hit Willard Wednesday. Then, depending on the action, either return to Willard or try a shot at some spot on Utah Lake on Thursday. But I covered a lot of water on Willard by leg power alone…using the motor very little. That’s kinda wearing on a portly old feller like myself. So I had about all the fun I could stand on Wednesday. Stood in bed on Thursday.
Pat, I fished down by the island, bottom bouncing looking for a walleye dinner but got no love. I finally joined the crowds by the North marina and caught a nice limit of crappies. The lake was glass all the time I was there.
**Glad you got some crappies. Sorry the wallies didn’t wanna play. Another week or two it should be gangbusters as the post spawn period kicks in for serious. May is magic.
