I normally don’t like to go out on Saturdays because there are so many people out. Adding the 4th into mix I figured it would be even worse. However I needed to get out on a lake because it has been way too long. Well, sadly I was right. East Canyon was a zoo. There was a good wait just to get the boat in the water and taking the boat out around 11 took even longer. I was trolling like many others and we tried to all stay away from each other (as best we could:) I tried using rainbow rapalas in different sizes at different depths. I only caught one trolling at 2 mph with a size 7 rapala at 3’. Ive had good success with Dodgers and pink squids in the past and I didn’t even get a nibble. I noticed on my fish finder that there were a lot of fish in the 45’ to 65’ range by the damn but they weren’t bitting unfortunately. (If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them.) Even with all of the boats all over the lake it was a beautiful day. The water was calm and it was sunny and not too hot. My favorite part of the trip was when I said it was time to go and my little 9 year old daughter said, “We can’t leave until we catch more fish.” I was so glad to hear that even though it was a slow day of fishing she still was having a good time. Im just glad me and my girls were able to get out and create some good memories. Next time I want to add a lot more fish to the memories. [;)]

What a tough day. Good to see you got out though. Been wondering when your next report was coming.
We have had great success using pop gear and a worm at EC. For the deeper ones a #3 jet diver and J7 jointed rainbow works well. just stay out of the shallows. Hope that helps.
If you want some fast action go to lost creek. Troll a brown trout repala. If you have down riggers thats even better. The lake is wakeless but check the restrictions.

For what ever reason EC has been slow for a lot of people this summer. LC is a better choice but the fish are a little smaller. As mentioned, check the regs before heading up there, there is a new slot limit in place. They are starting to manage it as a trophy fishery as of this year. I hope it works because if they can thin out the chubs there, the plan is to add kokanee to the mix sometime in the future

Thanks Wiperhunter for the encouragement. I do hate to hear that people aren’t doing well at any lake/river. That being said I do feel a little better at my lack of success. Last year a bad evening for me was 7 trout with my best night catching well over 20. Oh well I’ll just go back to the drawing board. It’s always a learning experience out there. Each new challenge only makes us better (I hope anyways[:)]) Thanks for the heads up on LC. I would love to see them introduce Kokes. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.
