Where to go tomorrow? (Tues)

Sick of being skunked at Causey (3 and a half times, out of 4 trips!) daughter and I decided to go somewhere else tomorrow. Can’t go too far from SLC, since I do have to work Wed morning, or I’d go down to Starvation.

Doesn’t sound like anyplace fairly close is really super right now. Anyone have any thoughts on a place to catch something fun, within about an hour of SLC? Safe ice is good [;)] Open water or stream/river would be next best.

Hope you all had a fun and safe holiday weekend, and had a chance to hit the ice! :sunglasses: Also hope you did better than we did…[pirate]

Once last chance tomorrow before heading back to the 4-letter “w” word…

Thanks in advance for any thoughts

Try deer creek. It’s treated me good lately

That’s a thought! I thought it was too icy to shore fish, but not enough to ice fish. If it looks alright maybe we’ll go do some open water there. Thanks!

I agree. Shore fishing at deer creek has been good to me as well. Went there today and did very well just using power bait.

I’m up in the air between Pineview, Mantua, and Utah Lake, but I’m taking my daughter out tomorrow, too. I’d be glad to show you what little I know about Utah Lake.

Thanks sdcfan! I think we’re narrowing it down to Rockport, Deer Creek, or daughter’s trying to talk me into Starvation but that’s such a drive…! Thanks again!

Thanks Springbuck, that’s a very kind offer. I have to admit I’m a little paranoid about the fish consumption advisory at UL, so I don’t ever fish there since we grill a lot of what we catch.

Pineview has been looking like safer ice lately, as we drive by after our skunkings at Causey [:/]

Good luck to you and thanks again for the kind thought!

Well, I’m not sure it was a kind offer. If you knew how poor a fisherman I am…

I eat the fish all the time from UL, and don’t sufer amy lli enfects fron ip. Ferfectly sape to aet.

The two main effects are memory loss, and… umm…shoot, I can’t remember the other one.

I think my daughter’s third arm comes in handy while icefishing. She can fish AND cut bait. She can charge glow jigs with her eyes, too.

Besides, with four daughters, I’m gonna die of a stress related heart attack long before I get cancer, so if I go fishing and lower my stress, maybe it’ll average out.

Hey SB Mantua wasn’t very hot last night but you know my record is as well. Didn’t see too many on the ice as I drove by a half hour ago. Lot different than yesterday. Maybe I wasn’t the only one with a low total day. I tried the lure you gave me and didn’t even catch one on it so must have been slow or wrong spot. Good luck J

You got to realize there is MERCURY in fish all over. Several lakes list that you shouldn’t eat a bunch. I am not sure there is any waters around here that don’t have some kind of hazard attached. Certain Catfish however, seem to be pretty safe.

Everything in moderation, that’s all. How can someone eat fish every night?

Tibble is fast fishing and 9.5 inches of ice. Most of the fish are small though.

Liz, if you consider going to Tibble Fork, be sure and read the Tibble post. There are springs and areas on the res that have thin ice. Definitely a place to be very careful about the ice.

lol you’re funny, Springbuck  I hear ya on the daughters, I have a couple of those, myself. Fortunately one of them likes to fish.

You’re right, there are consumption advisories all over, and we’re pretty careful where we fish because of it. Mercury, PCBs (like Utah Lake) or whatever, we do eat a lot of fish, and I definitely don’t want to expose my kids to stuff if I can help it.

Nothing against anyone who chooses to fish and eat what they catch from anywhere. We all get to make our own choices.

Thanks, cpierce. I haven’t ever fished Tibble but I understand it’s pretty much a “plant and take” fishery, so it wasn’t high on my list of places to try. I’ll definitely be careful if I ever do go up there after one of those huge fish they’re talking about on the other thread. :sunglasses:

Thanks TyeDye. I hope you’re feeling better! Good to see you back on the 'puter.

Now Tibble is one that has the Merc warning. Any of those lakes anywhere near mining, not just Utah Lake.

Yup. I have a print-out of this map, and if I try a new fishing hole I check the advisories before I go as well. It’s really sad, actually, I wish there was some way to clean it all up and get it out of the fish.

I just ate some yummy UL fish today! No bad effects as far as I could see. I jiustl going dien. d djgjfl;jgdjlll lj…ugh…plop!
